I’m hoping someone maybe able tell me what the plate is for above the flywheel in the attached photo, if I remove it I’m presuming it will leak coolant? Any help would much appreciated.

I think it’s just a blanking plate, something must bolt there for other markets.
This engine is used in all types of vehicles all over the world, even farm machinery.
Just make sure the gasket makes a good seal and leave it alone.
