I also often notice they are accelerated a lot faster than petrol/diesel, we have many roundabouts near us with 2 lanes and they seem to often overtake going round them and squeeze in leaving, never mind on the straight bits. I do not even bother trying to compete in the race.
Many cars now look quite ugly, no idea where the designers are being trained, I was saying this to Mrs P as we walked passed a Defender.
I think you are confusing EVs with BMW drivers :-D

By that metric you could say that road damage by ICE cars is a non argument too but they are taxed and heavily so in some cases. ICE drivers also pay significant tax on the fuel so it just doesn't make sense!! I currently pay over £700 a year for running my daily driver and my hobby classic not including fuel taxes. I am merely suggesting that EV drivers should pay their fair share!! :-D

I presume that it is more to do with the lost revenue on fuel for EVs.

Yes I agree Steve, I'm sure that is the economic issue behind the idea. My view is simply that in my mind it helps to redress the unfair car tax situation which currently exists. That is why I mentioned both horses and bikes as they benefit from the infrastructure without contributing. :-D

The Electric Vehicles UK team is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend, colleague and supporter, Quentin Willson.

A founding voice of our organisation and a leading advocate for electric vehicles, Quentin campaigned tirelessly for a fair transition to cleaner transport.

He helped shape EVUK from its very beginning and was always generous with his time, guidance and mentorship. His wisdom, passion and integrity influenced everything we do.

We are immensely grateful for the years of support, friendship and encouragement Quentin shared with us. He will be truly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family at this incredibly difficult time.

His family have shared the following message:-

"The family of Quentin Willson, television presenter and producer, motoring journalist, author, and campaigner, wish to announce that he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday 8th November, following a short battle with lung cancer. He was 68.

A true national treasure, Quentin brought the joy of motoring, from combustion to electric, into our living rooms.

He helped shape the original Top Gear as one of its first hosts, working alongside Jeremy Clarkson and the team who took the pioneering show global. He went on to front Fifth Gear and still holds the dubious honour of Strictly Come Dancing’s lowest score in history.

Through his FairFuel campaign, Quentin saved UK consumers a fortune by helping to freeze fuel duty. Over £100b in fresh taxation was prevented by the campaign, a real consumer win by a true consumer champion. He also created and presented much-loved programmes such as Britain’s Worst Drivers and The Cars the Star.

Long before it was fashionable, he championed the GM EV1 and the promise of electric cars, proving he was always ahead of the curve.

More recently he had worked tirelessly to make EVs affordable for all, via his FairCharge campaign.

Much-loved husband to Michaela, devoted father to Mercedes, Max and Mini, and cherished grandfather to Saskia, Xander & Roxana. Quentin will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him personally and professionally.

While messages of condolence are warmly appreciated, the family asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.

The void he has left can never be filled. His knowledge was not just learned but lived; a library of experience now beyond our reach."

He will always be in our thoughts, Dan, Tanya and the EVUK team.

I did enjoy Count Quentula (as I think Jeremy Claxxon once referred to him) from back in the Top Gear v1.0 days. They were just starting to liven up Top Gear a little in those days and he was part of that. Never saw much of him since then though 8-[

My father did nearly all his slowing down by changing down the gears. He expected the brake shoes to last the lifetime of the car.

I was never able to convince him that changing brake shoes occasionally would be a lot cheaper than a new clutch or, heaven forfend, a replacement gearbox. He was lucky though (and I suppose proved correct) and never had to get those changed in any of the cars I knew about.

The rear brake shoes on my pick up truck still look virtually new after well over 150k miles...... though I think that has more to do with the fact the rear brakes are rarely applied in normal use 8-[

Looks as though Ford has had to bite the bullet.

Just watched that all through Mick, in one part he says "People fixated on one technology." I think that's actually him, he's been doing videos for a couple of years now all trying to find and promote the negatives of going electric.
