Thanks Paul — that makes sense. Just to clarify, my 3008 definitely had RT6 / RNEG2 installed from the factory (screen, hard buttons, Nav button, Bluetooth, HDD maps, traffic, etc.). The unit was working fine until the internal microSD failed.

Because of that, I now need to reinstall the firmware from USB so it can boot again. The head unit was definitely previously running 2.86, so I know the update exists for this car — I just need to locate a clean copy.

The ISO Mick linked unfortunately extracts to the Application / Data_Base / UPG / SIRF structure, which looks like RNEG/MyWay. For RT6, I’m expecting the HEADUNIT + DATA + upgrade.lgu structure.

If anyone has a known-good source for the RT6/RNEG2 2.86B package, that would be hugely appreciated.

Just a quick update — I called Peugeot today and confirmed the firmware CD for the RT6 / RNEG2. The official PSA part number is 9691894880. They can no longer supply it, but that is the correct reference for the final firmware version 2.86B.

So I’m still looking for a downloadable copy of the package that contains the three files/folders: HEADUNIT, DATA and upgrade.lgu for USB installation.

You keep saying that but RNEG/MyWay is a totally different architecture by a different manufacturer. It's just plain wrong to say that.

And that is the part number on the image of the CD that Mick linked to AND the same part number as shown on the table that I posted.

Thanks Paul - I totally understand the distinction between the architectures and I agree with you. The system in my 3008 is definitely the Magneti Marelli RT6/RNEG2 (WipNav+).

The only reason I’m checking the file structure is because several discs found online are labelled as RT6 2.86 (with the correct PSA part number printed on the CD), but when you extract the ISO the contents don’t match the RT6 format — they contain the older Application / Data_Base / UPG / SIRF structure.

So I’m not saying the RT6 uses RNEG firmware - only that some of the ISOs circulating on the internet are mislabeled. That’s the problem I’m trying to avoid.

All I’m looking for is a working copy of the genuine 9691894880 / 2.86B firmware that can restore a blank SD following an RT6 failure.

If anyone has a verified copy that has successfully recovered an RT6 after SD replacement, I’d really appreciate the pointer.

I’m not looking for the CD ISO. I need the USB recovery version of RT6 / RNEG2 firmware 2.86B — the one used to rebuild the internal SD after failure.
It should contain HEADUNIT, DATA and upgrade.lgu.
If anyone has recovered their RT6 after SD replacement using this package and can share it, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks again everyone - and just to clarify where I’m at so I don’t waste anyone’s time:

My RT6 recently suffered the common internal microSD failure, so I’ve already replaced the SD card with a new one. The unit is currently stuck in the 15-second reboot loop, which means it can’t run the standard CD / ISO update method.

So I’m specifically looking for the USB recovery version of firmware 2.86B — the one that rebuilds the SD card from scratch. This is the version used by technicians to revive dead RT6 units after an SD replacement.

The recovery USB should contain (at the root):

HEADUNIT
DATA
upgrade.lgu

—not the Application / Data_Base / UPG / SIRF structure from CD ISOs.

If anyone has successfully revived their RT6 from a reboot loop after SD replacement and still has the USB recovery package they used, I’d be really grateful if you could share it (PM or link is fine).

Thanks again for the help so far.

All I can say is that every single version that I have (2.21, 2.31, 2.37, 2.71, 2.80, 2.85, 2.86) whether as an ISO or as USB software has the root structure

Application
Data_Base
db_dwnl_ppc
SIRF
UPG
BootRom.sym
CD.inf
Config.inf
- which is more or less what you're saying is not what you want. No-one else I have shared these files with has found this problem before.

Where did you get this information about HEADUNIT, DATA, upgrade.lgu from?

Hi Paul - just to update you:

You were right about the root structure for the RT6 firmware.
I mixed it up with the Renault MediaNav system, which uses upgrade.lgu, and that sent me down the wrong path. Now that I’ve read the official RT6 2.86 instructions and compared them to what you posted, everything matches exactly.

So yes — the correct RT6 layout is:

Application
Data_Base
db_dwnl_ppc
SIRF
UPG
BootRom.sym
CD.inf
Config.inf

Sorry for the confusion earlier — totally my mistake.
I appreciate the help you’ve given, and I’m going to try the proper 2.86 upgrade on my unit now that the SD has been replaced. Fingers crossed!

Hi, I have tried two times to install RT6 firmware 2.86 via USB 8gb, and what happens is the screen comes on with the Peugeot logo and then say on the screen in top left corner;
CRC Media checking... for a few minutes, then says CRC Media error.... then reboots and loop's.

Have I got something wrong?
Thanks advance.

I did mate, first I downloaded the USB files and tried that on a 16GB USB flash drive.
Then I download the ISO and extracted the files on to a different 8GB USB flash drive and I got the same result.

The files was like this, and not in a folder on both USB flash drives.

Application
Data_Base
db_dwnl_ppc
SIRF
UPG
BootRom.sym
CD.inf
Config.inf

Not sure what to do now.

If anyone has a known-good source for the RT6/RNEG2 2.86B package, that would be hugely appreciated.
My head unit had the 2.86B package originally.

Does a USB drive with mp3 files play correctly?

The RT6 head unit doesn't work to play any mp3 files, the screen is blank when I turn on the engine, the CD makes eject sound every min, the radio doesn't work. I am not sure what you mean. Come to think about it I have never tired to play any mp3 files in it current state.

My USB drives are new, I got two for this job - SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16GB and a 8GB

I think you may have to accept that the RT6 is too damaged to be able to access the USB drive. At the very least the USB socket is not working properly.

Someone here had their head unit (RT6 as well I think) repaired and posted about it. I'll try to find the post later.
