Toyota Proace Verso - No Android Auto or Carplay

Unread post by zedx19 »

Trying to figure this out, seen topics about updating firmware to add Android Auto, but also Google suggests it needs activating, so I'm totally confused as to what I'm meant to do?

I have just purchased a 2018 Proace Verso, it has this screen and only shows Mirrorlink, no other options. If I plug a phone in, nothing comes up, Mirrorlink button goes white and I can press it, but it seems to think about it, then nothing happens.

Previous car was Peugeot 5008 we had for 8 years, I have Peugeot Planet, Diagbox software plus the OBD cable so I can use that if required, assuming it will work as its just a rebadged Peugeot.

How do I go about adding Android Auto functionality?

We don't normally deal with non French car issues but in this case hopefully this info from Toyota will sort you out: https://support.toyota.com/s/article/Ho ... uage=en_US :)

Appreciate the quick reply, the vehicle might say Toyota on the badge but its obviously all Peugeot rebadged. Surely the head unit is identical to the Peugeot Traveller version and as such, be updated to include Android Auto?

The link posted doesn't work, Android Auto doesn't not come up on the screen when the phone is connected via a USB data cable.

When you say the link doesn't work, do you mean the link or the method on the Toyota page? :)

Link connected fine for me.

Link to Toyota website works, the method contained within does not, the only option when a phone is connected, is Mirrorlink.

You probably have to telecode the NAC infotainment system, zone 0x2131 (Telecoding_Fct_ANDROID) and enable it.
They usually disable Android Auto in cars sold in Japan and some Toyota sold elsewhere.

How would I code it? Managed to code my Golf GTi to add Android Auto to it, following instructions on a forum, was hoping there would be similar instructions for Toyota but I'm struggling to find anything.

Hi

That seems odd as I have a 2018 Expert van with the identical looking head unit setup and I have Android Auto / Carplay, I realise the firmware may be different but still odd. My van is the Pro Plus version but would expect a Verso to have it as standard.

I've also got a dongle that makes it WiFi or Bluetooth which is easier.

Interested to see how you get on with this.

The firmware is exactly the same, but the calibration (kind of the default loaded values) and codification (configuration for specific features) are different. That's why you can see different logos and vehicle image/silhouettes using the same infotainment system (and firmware version). I don't know why Toyota usually disables Android Auto in this systems, but they do it...

You can code it using the official VCI Actia XS Evo/PSA XS Evolution (AKA Lexia 3) and the DiagBox software, or an Arduino with a CAN bus shield - see https://github.com/ludwig-v/arduino-psa-nac_rcc_cirocco

At that URL you can see a screenshot with the NAC zones for direct codification, specifically the "2131: Telecoding_Fct_ANDROID".

Thanks for your reply, I have Diagbox so plugged it into the car, selected Peugeot Traveller and it read the vin and everything fine, bar the head unit which is says is not recognised. I know Diagbox is reading the head unit as the screen will show "Diagnostics in progress" but it does not recognise what type of head unit it is, so I can't open the module to enable android auto.

Arduino seems to need a specific usb device to read it, which looks like you have to build yourself. Tried my PSA XA Evolution cable but Arduino shows, "Com port not found".

I must be missing a step somewhere, annoyingly.
