Why I won't be buying a modern car!

Unread post by mickthemaverick »

Add your reasons here for an interesting collection of what's wrong with modern cars!! :-D

This is a compelling reason for me:
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Why I won't be buying a modern car ?
I could go into all sorts of reasons about styling, cost, built in obsolescence, complexity, full of unnecessary tat, uninspiring, lack of driver involvement, not aimed at the home car mechanic, etc, etc.......

But basically, they're not aimed at me and I'm not their model customer. I'm not entirely sure who is, but I know I'm not it 8-[ #-o

Stellantis get a mention. I wonder if they can push out adverts for where you can get your recall work done promptly. I think it’s about 1.5 million cars worldwide and rising.

I wonder if it will move towards a you tube style business model. Free with adverts, paid without. If you could get your connect plus mapping updates for free or £90 a year, which would you choose.

Meanwhile I look forward to the next general election, my car screen telling me to vote for the highest bidder.

Not sure if it was that article or another I saw on Reddit that made the point that bigger cars are now needed because the occupants are also a lot bigger on average these days

Basically, they no longer fit something the size of an 80s Fiesta...

It's a problem for the likes of me - I struggle nowadays to find clothes to fit me as the bias is very much toward the larger-sized male

We have a Kia something or other at work as a site car. In order to start it it has to be in neutral, foot on the clutch AND foot on the brake. On the screen a message comes up saying please accept our revised privacy policy or some such nonsense. 🤬🤬

Well I'm a larger sized male and I also struggle to get clothes to fit properly. I think everyone should be average sized, either medium, large or extralarge. No small and no xxl or more according to clothing manufacturers. Cars too nowadays, but I must say my current skoda karoq fits me perfectly. VAG must have used big fat barstewards designing it. And why it's now the car I have owned the longest ever time!

Indeed, Tesco no longer have 30" waist jeans in their range  Happily, I've found an alternative supplier, albeit an online one.

People's feet must be getting bigger these days and shops do not stock smaller sizes. Our daughter needed a new pair of walking/hiking shoes and is a 3 or 3½. She was in Keswick in the Lake District and there are about 15 outdoor shops and only one had sizes less than 4. This is a specialist boot shop and there was a choice to try. Her worn out pair were also from the same shop. Apparently a few of the shops there are all owned by the same parent company, Sports Direct so the competition is not really there.

I must say Paul, I can't really understand how your daughter's lack of shoe options affects your reasons for not buying a modern car? :-D

Perfectly normal FCF topic drift Mick...

Maybe Paul has the same issue as I would if I wanted a new car - can't find one small enough...

Seems a good enough excuse for me.
