C3 picasso 2015 1.6 diesel (cranking not starting) just after a major service

The car runs well before the service, upon completion of the job the mechanic had trouble starting it. Guessing it might have been the air that got in … still doesn’t start at the moment. Im still with the mechanic

If they disconnected the battery during the service has it had a proper BSI reset?

Hi there, all is well now, apparently it’s because of a hairline opening around the valve that cause the it to get less pressure, once sorted and tightened out, problem solved. Gosh as simple as it sounds it causes extended time to figure out. Just glad it’s all working fine now. Take care, thanks again for your response

All I can think of is something to do with the fuel filter, possibly the water drain valve or one of the pipes.

Hi guys it’s somewhere around the fuel filter as per the mechanic, he noticed a small leak coming out on the valve then once identified my mechanic, took it out and placed it back properly, then that’s it starts.

Fundamentally, it should not emit any smoke under any circumstances.

To help us potentially diagnose the issue, what colour is the smoke and for how long after initial cold start does it smoke? Does it clear when the engine has warmed up?

I have some thoughts but need answers to the above before I can refine them.

Hi Jim, thanks for your time reaching out, anyway to answer your questions, 1st during cold weather it after a cold start it emits whitish smoke and yes after a while when the engine has warmed up it lessens and eventually gone. Then during fair weather, doesn’t emits thick smoke but still u can smell its fumes and a bit whitish thin smoke, it clears again after it warms up.

Im guessing around 10-15 mins after an initial cold start, smoke starts to lessen and then gone

Does your car have Adblue ? If so it might be leaking in to the exhaust or injecting too much.

That sounds like all the fuel is not being burnt when the engine is cold. I don't know enough about that particular engine but it suggests to me you may have faulty glow plugs. You may find more general advice on this site: https://myenginespecs.com/diesel-engine ... ne-issues/
