Hi,
I decided to renew the X2 full length, rear wheel Brake Pipes on my 1.4 SE after discovering that my Hand held flaring tool could not FLARE the original High Carbon Steel, PSA pipes.
My idea was to take the easy route and simply use a pipe JOINER piece between the original STEEL and the new COPPER repair section.
My trusty SUPRA hand-held flaring tool was able to FLARE the new COPPER pipe without difficulty, BUT I ended up with a LEAK at the ABS end in both pipes. Very soon I discovered that the PROBABLE cause is down to me using a tool that only makes a 45 degree FLARE angle, which is INCOMPATIBLE with the ABS unit FLARE angle of 37 degrees. ( my conclusion after reading readily available DATA on ABS systems.)
My question is - "anyone out there encountered this ISSUE ? "
I would love to hear if my conclusion is correct, as I am in the process of procuring a 37 Degree FLARING TOOL.
Thanks

I would also advise against using pure copper piping. It is known to cause problems in PSA cars. Source some cupro-nickel pipes to make up the replacements.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks for that advice - unfortunately I already bought some Saville copper tube which is superior to the copper coated Chinese steel tubing which is all over eBay.
My biggest problem is finding a Flaring Tool which can replicate the PSA factory FLARE of the original brake pipes. I am aware of the Kunifer Brand, but I recently saw this online for £12.00 for a 25 foot roll which is ridiculous !
Thanks again for your input,

Just a note to say that I am going to opt for KUNIFER tubing after reading to-day,(26 November), that there may be problems with Motor Insurers if a later accident revealed that the car had been fitted with pure COPPER pipes, rather than the stronger KUNIFER.
Thanks again
