2023 aircross phev tyre size

Unread post by Sjaar »

Hi,
Afer i sold my old c5 x7 wanted to try newer c5 aircross from 2023(facelift).
Right now im running from factory 225/50 r19.
As this is really wierd size so a price for the new tires is ridicoulus.
i know rims can fit 235/50 r19 but does the car also? Its only 1cm wider so 0.5cm on each side.
Has anybody have any expierience with clearens on struts and so on?
Would like to know before ordering. Have used google but only have seen this on c5 x

The easiest way would be to get a 10mm drill bit, or similar, and see if you can happily pass it round the existing tyre all the way through the wheel arch on both sides of the tyre. If you can you'll have 10mm each side to play with so 5mm extra should still give you clearance :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Most (all?) cars suitable for pan-European climates have enough clearance to run low profile snow chains, I think the lowest are 7mm. See if your handbook says anything aboout chains, but if they are allowed you should be OK as long as you never fit them yourself for alpine travel. PHEVs are likely heavier than IC engined cars so check the load rating of the current tyres (usually something 91-97 ish) - often overlooked but important.

What I normally do is look at what other tyre sizes are available for the different trim levels as this often means the car is directly compatible (unless there are changes to brake rotor sizes too).

So if this is technically a trim option, which it appears to be, the clearances should be fine.

One option is maybe find one for sale locally and go and inspect it to see.

Another option to reduce the price of tyres over the long term, and get a more comfortable ride on our roads is to buy some new rims and step down to the 235/55/r18 tyres. You'd have to get the 18" wheels though, only spanner in that plan.
