Once they got their quality issues sorted out they started to come up with products of their own designs. Now Japan is considered to be a country that manufactures high quality products. It is possible that China is in the early stages of the same process (and China are coming up with some clever innovations).
One should be well aware that China can and do produce some very, very high quality products.

They will build to the quality requested by those seeking to have products made in China. It's simply a case of quality versus cost. If you want it cheap it'll be crap.

As ever was, whatever the country of origin... Anyone remember 'Empire Made' tranny radios and other random tat in the 60s and 70s? Bizarrely, now very collectable

And Russian slop of all sorts that was once available for silly money... It was all cheap, dangerously shoddy s**t of the highest order. But that masked the fact that Russia did have the ability to make decent stuff even if it was mainly copies of western stuff. Like the Chinese and Japanese, they copy well and have the ability to improve in doing so.

The Tupolev Tu-144 (Concordeski) was the exception that tended to proved that particular rule

I’m perplexed by the CHINA TAKES OVER PEUGEOT topic headline. Nothing on Stellantis corporate news, nothing about Distrigo which is the Stellantis owned parts operation for most if its brands. Sounds dramatic but is it real news?

Stellantis has made a very big investment in an 'all brands' parts center in Ellesmere Port (I guess some Vauhall land they already owned?) - Peugeot, Citroen, Jeep, Vauxhall, Fiat etc. As it begins to fully function there will be changes elsewhere as old centres are closed and maybe garages hold fewer parts. Stellantis does have a strategic partnership with and shareholding in Leapmotor to sell them outside of China, but 2 years ago bought itself out of a joint venture with Dongfeng (who made a "Chinese C6"). I'm sure Stellantis buys in components from many countries just like all the other groups but Stellantis owns (grew out of) PSA, and is a European company listed in Paris, Milan and on the NYSE.

I think the "China Takes over Peugeot" line might be exaggeration so UK owners have nothing (new) to worry about.

Hope so, just a pity that them who were right in the thick of it were kicked iut there jobs and the others left on there own accord because of not liking the way things were going ,maybe this could be how the cars are sold ? I was left with this , there's more but I just can't say ... something isn't right . And no I'm not a conspiracy nut job either , I'd rather belive the cog thats been in the loop for almost 20 yrs than some text written on some online car magazine spilling stuff out to sell there product , look at what's been going on with some well known mags there and the ev tripe
