It made getting to work unpredictable, every morning I would set off not knowing how long it would take, could be anything from 10 minutes to over an hour.
Yep, M6 is pretty reliably a nightmare from approx junction 24 (Golborne) to junction with the M56 (junction 20) each day!

My solution has been in early and leave late, so office days are normally get there before 8 and not heading home till gone 6. Road is still busy on that worst bit but normally tolerable at those times.

Checking what's going on via

https://www.trafficengland.com/traffic-report

Is very sensible and has become part of my routine for setting off either way :)

Answers on a postcard please:

Suddenly very springy/spongy clutch pedal which, given extreme difficulty selecting gears, is clearly not disconnecting the clutch fully.

Was perfect this morning, meeting in central Manchester (translate as abysmal traffic the nearer to the centre you get) then difficult to get into first when setting off + spongy pedal tonight.

Very stressful drive home.

My guess is clutch master cylinder has failed? Sods law would make it the slave (and doubly so if it's concentric and inside the bell housing)

Argh!

(Did limp it home but need a lie down now!)

Parts Asia site and Halfords websites both suggest a concentric slave cylinder (so gearbox off job) £124 for Sachs or Luk (and roughly double!)

LuK
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-p ... 00058.html
£123.97

No master cylinder listed on Halfords or EuroCarParts unfortunately.

Master cylinder:

Nty brand, £58 ebay

Parts Asia site lists the clutch master cylinder as
6742596 80

No results on eBay or online search.

Odd looking thing on eBay search for "308 clutch master cylinder blue HDi 2.0"

https://ebay.us/m/xS5d0M
£119 seemingly GSF.

On GSF site directly it lists this:
https://www.gsfcarparts.com/products/cl ... -vlo804920
Master cylinder, £120.10 (with BF24 discount code applied) no picture.

Part number quoted on that listing: 804920

Searching for that number gives this:

Again looking completely different!

EDIT
Not only completely different, But with an electric connector built in!!

I've just had a look on the Febi Bilstein website https://partsfinder.bilsteingroup.com/en/index which is normally a good reference for regular service or replacement items but drawn a blank. You might have better luck with a more refined search.

Is this the correct slave listed at LUK ?
https://vehiclelifetimesolutions.schaef ... -TA-100648
Checking ebay with the LUK p/n gives cheaper options...... presuming that's actually the correct one !

Have a look through the Valeo catalogue for the master cylinder. https://www.valeoservice.co.uk/en-uk/techassist
The GSF listing seems to indicate it's suitable for both 1.5hdi and 2.0hdi.

It's been a long day, going to give me eyes a rest and have a good look (including a look at "the patient" in the light of day) in the morning.

Thanks Bobbins for your research :)

Interesting:
Clutch Master Cylinder

There is a thread on this forum re master clutch cylinder sticking. Warranty Recall - HML. Had mine replaced @ 24,389 miles - 23/03/18 (15 plate 308 GT 2.0 HDI) Symptoms were clutch sticking when depressed - sounds similar to what you're describing possibly. Hope this helps - interested to know how you get on.

Sorry to hear of your clutch issues Matt :( Lets hope it can all be easily resolved and the right bit can be found at a good price.

I'm intrigued by the electrical connector. Is it to signal a command to the BSI etc. to disengage cruise control when the clutch is operated?
