Header tank!

Post by Chris Peddie »

Hi,
Does anyone have any tips on what to use to make a header tank for a Xantia to fill the cooling system?
Thanks, Chris

I have a (cleaned) plastic oil can with the bottom cut out. The neck of the can fits inside the header tank and is then packed round with Blu-tack wrapped in plastic sheet to make it (reasonably) water-tight.

As I've got to check mine soon I remember I used an engine oil "top-up" container (1 litre I suppose) with a wide neck that fitted well. I also found "plumbers mait" a good sealant although the Blue Tack a good idea. However after using this I noticed those black plastic Tango drink bottles looked a better bet as the similar size neck has a seal on it. I'm going to try this soon.
