Renault safrane Thermostate

I have discovered the thermostate is not located where i thought it was, I thought it was located on the front right of the engine in the housing with all the sensors i have found it is not. Does any one know where it is is it behind the water pump? the car is a 2.0 rt auto safrane it has a 12 valve engine. thanks
