I have a 22 Plate C3 Aircross where the pipes feeding the heater matrix make the passenger side of the console extremely hot. So much so that i cant leave my phone in the well.
Is this a common problem and is there a fix?

I've never heard of that problem before but I wonder if you have some insulation around the pipes missing? 
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
