Hello there and thanks for letting me join this forum.
I'm trying to help a lady who recently have bought a Citroen C5 1.6hdi 2007.Her problems with this car started early. She had to be push started to be able to leave the ferry and it turned out to be a blown 20amp fuse for the starter.Later this same fuse have blown several times but now the starter seems "dead" when turning the ignition key and that fuse is ok.
I have ordered a OBD2 ELM327 diagnose tool but it has t yet arrived.
I do not have access to a lift to get under the car to check the starter at the moment som im wondering if anybody here in this forum can tell me if the wire from the starter solenoid can be found under the bonnet, maybe at the BSM?
If i had known which wire i could have tested if she needed to replace the starter or maybe a relay or something on the BSM is the problem. This is a left hand car in Norway.
I hope somebody can help me solve this issue. Regards from Bent

Re: Startmotor issue
This is a common problem, and is most likely the starter. It's not fun to change - one of the bolts is invisible and pretty much inaccessible - I have a replacement starter in my garage that I never managed to fit; scrapped the car instead (for other reasons)!

Re: Startmotor issue
99.9% that the solemoid has died, the starter motor will be fine. The solenoid if fused, the starter isn't. Seen this on my 2.0l Hdi and a friends C4

Re: Startmotor issue
Each starter has 3 connections. The first minus that comes through the chassis, but it can be that it has a separate cable (thick black). The next plus is the thick red cable that comes directly from the battery. The third is the excitation for the starter and it is a thin wire, mostly red in color. If that thin wire is disconnected and a plus 12 V is connected in its place, then the starter should turn. If nothing happens, then the starter is removed and repaired.

Re: Startmotor issue
Yes i know that there is a thin wire that activates the startmotor for the engine to start but my problem is that i do not have a lift and the startmotor location have very difficult access. That is why i ask if anybody knows if that solenoid wire color and if it can be found for example near the fusebox BSM1?
