I'd have done so too... I might not have if it was Reddit they were deep into on their 'phones but Tik Tok is just unforgivable...Huskyxantia wrote: 15 Oct 2025, 16:30 Well I've 2 punctures that will need a attention soon but todays price given was £65.90 , 2 young mechanics to busy filming tic tok videos then working , need i say more ... And almost my age to fix two punctures? Outrageous

In a change to recent posts, some actual car maintenance:
Easiest handbrake cable adjustment access I've come across!
Just nipped up a bit for the moment. I'll follow the specific process as described in Haynes in the spring. Talks of checking appearances at the caliper etc, will do it properly. For now taking a bit of the free slack out seems to have done the trick

And a quick "send in the phone camera" to try and find the Grey 308 SW's oil leak:
(Sorry for the portrait view, was best way of dangling the phone into the abyss!)

Defo gasket there , and as we all know a little oil goes a long way . Fiddly job regarding access but other wise fairy easy .

A maths challenge for you:
9 miles covered, average speed 9 miles an hour.
But, first 6 miles on free flowing motorway so let's say averaged 65 mph for that bit. Last 2 miles averaged 30 mph.
Question 1: how "fast" was the rest of the journey.
Question 2: how knackered and hungry am I now!?

Q1 : I reckon the last mile took you just under 51 and a half minutes to do at an average speed of around 1.15mph.
Q2 : Yes. Lots.

Q1: You ran out of diesel and had to push the car home so that'll be slow walking pace.
Q2: See the answer to Q1 and make a deduction.
Good exercise and good for getting your daily steps in...

Ha ha, I am pretty confident I could have pushed it faster (though maybe a challenge to keep it rolling over Thelwall!
Remarkably that abysmal journey was only part of the way home. I stopped at IKEA for something to eat (chicken schnitzel, chips and peas £7, can't grumble) plus some tea towels (apologies for bragging about my rock and roll lifestyle!)
Getting back on the "now clear" (said Traffic England) M6, instead around Wigan we all ground to a dead stop again then a crawl for ten minutes as 4 lanes into one (for overnight roadworks) gave further entertainment!
Thankfully today is "pseudo - Friday" as off rest of the week for some fun with the family (half term)

We used to live close to the M6 Thelwall viaduct and there seemed to be crashes on it every second week and the whole area around Warrington including the Warburton toll bridge would grind to a halt with traffic. It made getting to work unpredictable, every morning I would set off not knowing how long it would take, could be anything from 10 minutes to over an hour.
