100% they aware of that. You know what, if they’d left a note on the windshield with a phone number, honestly I wouldn’t have been angry — I might not even have called. We’re all human and it can happen to any of us. The man opened his door and put a proper dent in my car door, then made off. Now I’m looking for a dashcam that can record 360‑degree footage. I’d be grateful for any recommendations.

I think people who do this often do it on purpose. I always take care to park as far away as possible hoping others will not park next to us but even on an empty car park I have had a car park next to us.

I have used the touch up paints so a mark will not rust but these days the brushes in them do not have enough bristles to do a decent job.

Some (a lot?) might polish out with T-cut.

I asked already to local detailing shop. He said that French cars especially citroen has very thin layer of paint and gave me an offer € 675 for full detailing and ceramic shield :)

Yes you are right about the paint thicknesses on Citroën, my old x7 had good paint, currently car is as thin as thin gets, and it chips easy.
I use a ceramic coating, nothing special, currently using a hybrid polish/wax, even a £20 bottle off ebay lasted quite well. Yes there are expensive coatings out there, but I can't see the point as I redo mine every other wash (couple of months) and not the once a year they advertise.

Well, you are right. Personally, I don’t think the product lasts 12 months as advertised. I’m sure there are some truly premium paint protection ceramic coating brands out there, but as you said, using a quick coating every few washes might be a better option. I’ve just ordered Meguiar’s 101 and 205. After applying them, I’ll apply the Soft99 QJUTSU ceramic coating. Of course, I also need to get a touch-up pen.

IMHO not a lot of that will polish out, the thickness of modern clear-coat is just not there to allow it. Touch up paints will look horrid as it is a metallic and will need to be built up in many layers to get to a correct thickness to "level" the defect before applying new clear over the defect.....live with horrid or paint the whole door

Actually I have a road map. I will follow step by step this video:
I’m quite handy with this kind of stuff.

I have one of those paint pens (they are used for calligraphy) and can highly recommend them for that type of "filling" as well as full thickness stone chips etc, getting the paint thickness correct is the key...I find decanted aerosol paint is both to thin (it floods) and to volatile/drys in the tip/cup.....DO NOT try it with a brush is my advice.

Another tip....a cup of thinners, wash out the pen after each and every fill...and a hard clean surface to "start" it before applying to the car...

Good luck

We had a similar experience - while closing drivers door on our C5 Aircross, a truck hit it and we will be left paying a hefty excess to replace it and associated repairs (we did not get truck details)

We had intended fitting dashcam previously, but wanted to get some electronic problems fixed first. Will now do so. Settled on a Thinkware U3000. Now my question is how best to provide power for the dashcam, while it is in parking mode. Can buy a separate battery, but that is very expensive. Can hardwire power supply, but not confident regarding impact on Economy Mode etc. There is also an option to power it from OBD (cable supplied). This is the method recommended by local installer. They cannot guarantee results.

Has anyone used ODB to power a dashcam? Did BSI/CANBUS etc affect it? I believe that you can set a minimum Volts level for the battery in the Thinkware software, then the unit stops drawing power when it reaches that level, so should never flatten the battery.

Hi

I have dashcams in both my van and car, they both have usb power inputs so I was thinking about trying a powerbank to power them when I'm not driving.

Also a powerbank that can output to the dashcam the same time as charging from the vehicle so it can remain connected inline, I think it would need to be a fast charging powerbank though to keep charged enough depending on journey time for when parked up.

Need to experiment to see how long the dashcam will run vs size of the powerbank first.

Just thinking aloud really

The economy mode doesn't need much of an excuse to kick in, my Expert van is a mobile workshop so I can be back and forth dozens of times on one job opening and shutting the doors which puts it into economy mode pretty quick which is very annoying particularly as the interior lights will only stay on for a short while when in economy mode.

Regards
