Re: Do you believe in ghosts ?
In her novel 'Grey Lady' Mum describes a few ghosts that 'haunt' the waterways of Britain. Some of them are well known. I wonder if (before the advent of marine engines) working boaters, because they had an uncomplicated life where they did not have to concentrate on lots of things, were able to observe stuff that other (mentally busy) people missed? A two person crew (usually a husband and wife, probably with a few children) had, when they were moving a boat, a comparatively simple working day; she would handle the boat while he would handle the horse and manage the locks. Because of this they could take in the world around them as they meandered on through at a gentle walking pace.

Re: Do you believe in ghosts ?
Sounds real good there Jim, I was watching the isle of wight railway cam for haven street my wife pointed at the screen and said is that a person , they were wearing orange, it was 10.30 at night , I took a screen shot and emailed the place . They replied back about a week later thanked me for the picture and then said it might of been a worker , but unlikely due to the time but did say they had a resident spook of a track side engineer! It was a omg wow moment right there.

James, ive often wondered why so many of them losey called paranormal investigators have never bothered with the water ways , they seem to want to copy each other for example, old hospitals old houses ,anything old and run down made of brick or stone. I'd like to see a video of someone investigating some of these old famous water ways , considering how rich the history is id be very surprised if paranormal accounts were all being missed simply because of the copy cat investigating going on

Re: Do you believe in ghosts ?
Taken from the preface of 'Grey Lady' (by Jenny Maxwell (my Mum));
"There are ghosts on the canals. A red-haired woman on a flight of locks plagued any boatman with a grey horse. Her lover had had a grey horse. When he abandoned her she drowned herself, but she never forgave him, even after death. Take a grey horse up that flight of locks, and the gates will swing open, a windlass will fly from your hands and be lost. When at last you lead the grey horse on down the path you will hear laughter behind you.
Don't look back. It's only a ghost.
A headless man walked a tunnel towpath, gone when a light was shone at him, but many swore they had seen him. Part of the wall of that tunnel fell in, and they found a skeleton. There was no skull. They buried the skeleton in the churchyard, and no one has seen him since. It was only a ghost, and never there, when you shone a light.
Travel the canals now, when the waters are cleaner and the boats are quick and light, and you will have to half close your eyes and use your mind and the memories of your ancestors to see the ghosts, but if you can do that they will crowd around you, on these canals. Men, women, children, horses, donkeys and mules, and with them the narrowboats, built for the canals, long and strange, and graceful in this, their own country, their own element.
Look behind the boats, and the men and women. Look behind the horses and see those who dug the canals, digging and levelling, clearing and building. Behind them stand the dreamers, those who wondered, and calculated and planned, walked the contours of the hills, and said it could be done.
Yes, it can be done.".

Re: Do you believe in ghosts ?
Very hard that video it looks like someone walking but it's fog, ive drove many lonely back roads over the years and seen rising mist and fog patches and they do looknp very atmospheric, but seeing that fog figure looking like it was walking , very odd indded

Haunted roads , ive travelled many roads , some spoke of as haunted but only heard a werid laughter when myself and a handful of friends went to Kent to investigate The blue blue hill ghost , I drover up and down the crash area and had an mp3 recorder recording and when we played it back we were all amazed at this werid laugh , but my mate said sounds more like a scream and one that sounds like it's been squashed

Halloween must have gone out of fashion in Paggers... I did not see one trick or treater last evening and I still have a whole tub of Haribo as a result!
I think the rain around these parts may have put them off...
