Enquiry about the use of this wire?

Unread post by TQ92 »

Hi there, was wondering about the usage of this red cable which was sitting loosely near the BSI, I keep reading conflicting stories that it's a spare 12v line for aftermarket parts. The other is saying it's part of the ignition process. There is no where that I can see that seats this cable.

The vehicle cranks but doesn't turn over, was wondering if this could be the issue? find it hard to believe that this cable would just jump out easily?

I assume this is for the C4 mentioned in your signature? If so what is the RPO number, 5 digit found on the tyre pressure sticker, and which engine and gearbox do you have? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

So your RPO is 10298 but I'm afraid I cannot find anything in my backup system that will shed light on the issue. Unfortunately I do not have access to the live Servicebox, although there are members that do and one of them may be able to help. However it is also worth knowing that PSA cannot be trusted to use the same colours on any given vehicle so it would be an idea to see if you can find the ID number of the wire which should be printed on it at various intervals. When we know the number it may be possible to determine the purpose. :)

THIS....PSA have not used colours as a key for years and years (30+). PSA use NUMBERS printed (repeated) all along the wires.

BF06 is the Maxi Fuse battery live output. Check if the terminal has cam off the seperate fuse box anywhere, its normally above the main fusebox
It may be that is just for something your car is not fitted with.

EDIT: on further checking it apears to power fuse 39 in this fuse box that is for heated seats, does your car have them?

It doesnt 🙂 looking at the manual (and online) it was an optional extra which was not picked by the previous owner. So would mean its fine just hanging around in there!

I went and obtained a obd scanner and it says my ecu is locked and none of the keys are matched 😅
I would say that is my start issue....

What is the background of the fault? Did it used to start? Or have you acquired this as a non runner?
Same with both keys?
Would be unusual on this car for the keys to just drop out.

I drove the car home, but it was iffy and there seemed to be issues with the battery and as soon as it was swapped out. Boom here we are...

Did you follow the correct battery disconnect/reconnect process?
I have seen this erase the keys on old Xsaras with early multiplex systems but not on something of this age.
Do you have the security code to try re programming the keys?

Yeah I did, with no success.
I do have the code but no equipment to reprogram unfortunately!
