Hi Folks, don't have occasion to come on often now but the parking sensors on my latest car don't work although amazingly enough practically everything else does!
Its a C5 something + leather and glass roof. they seem to be completely dead except that a while back they suddenly started working while in a car park, flushed with success I reversed into the yard at home into the coal bunker - they had stopped again! I have had all the plugs out of the unit in the spare wheel space and they all look as clean as a whistle, still nothing. I have checked the under bonnet fuse which is fine, the dashboard fuses I haven't but they all seem to power other things as well which are all working.
I have another control box or at least my son does as we gave him the silver car and the sensors were working on it OK until the major BSI failure, everything else is working OK. So failing that any other suggestions?
Thanks
Peter

Re: Parking sensors C5
Needs a diagnostic with lexia - if there's an issue with the parking assistance ECU or the sensors themselves, it will provide the location of the faulty sensor(s). When there is any part of the system that is faulty, it disables the whole system until the next time reverse is engaged - then it self checks again. If it's an intermittently faulty sensor it may work one second then off the next - so don't rely on it in this state for obvious reasons.

My system stopped working twice. The first time the speaker had failed, the second it was one of the sensors. Both would have been impossible to diagnose without Lexia. Last week, it stopped working a 3rd time. I have yet to plug in Lexia.

Re: Parking sensors C5
Thanks both. When it started working as far as I could tell in the short space of time it was working correctly. I do have a Lexia now but it seems to be very difficult to get it to do what I want to, could be that my brain is getting old but last time I connected it made little sense and didn't tell me much, I will try again in the warmer weather.
This last one I bought I paid £1100 pounds and everything works, except the sensors. I bought it as a reaction to a Quote of £1300 for a new clutch in one of the others, not only did it have a new clutch last year but the heated seats, rear wiper/washer and aircon all work. The front door handles were broken, my conclusion is that it had been a Taxi, I fitted the ones from my scrap car at the top of the field. There was no DPF fluid in it when I put some in it also cured the hesitation on the throttle. It has 18" wheels so I thought the ride would terrible but it is in fact very good and no rattles or squeaks, very pleased with it so far. There some very cheap ones out there if you are prepared to do a few jobs on them.
Is there any way of updating the Satnav?

Depends what system you have. Maps are still available for the RT6, but not for earlier systems.

Re: Parking sensors C5
I eventually plugged in Lexia....no fault returned. I have tested the speaker and reversing switch (gearbox) and are OK. I have not investigated further and just living without them.

Re: Parking sensors C5 and reversing lights
A pre-MOT check showed my reversing lights are now not working...a full house of faults..(1) No reversing lights (2) No initiation of rear parking system (3) No passenger door mirror dipping. Good job reversing lights are not an MOT item. I hope its just the switch on the gearbox. I changed the ABS module yesterday, which requires removal of the engine ECU/fuse box, which may have disturbed the switch connector/wiring directly below.

Re: Parking sensors C5
It turned out to be a faulty reverse switch. Cheap and easy to replace, on top of the gearbox under the air filter box. 21mm spanner.
Reversing lights, passenger dipping door mirror and reversing sensor warning tone now all working.....but the sensors are not. Doh!
