I have a 1993 Citroen ZX TD with discs all-round and ABS. My rear axle needs replacing due to wheels rubbing on inner wheel arch.
I can not seem to get hold of a complete axle with discs and ABS, so a local scrap yard have offered me a complete axle with disc but not ABS, the guy tells me that the non-ABS axle will bolt straight on and that I should remove the ABS light from the dash and I will be OK, but the car will no longer have ABS. This does'nt bother me not having ABS, but I was wondering if it is as easy as he says.
So if any of you experts think of any other promlems this might cause, then please let me know.
Thanks Louis

Technically your car should fail its MOT, since ABS is fitted and the lamp sequence will not be correct. It will be difficult to remove all traces of ABS easily.
Insurance will also be invalid, altho they will probably be obliged to provide RTA cover in the event of an accident. However they could get you for failing to declare the modification and make life VERY difficult to get reinsured.
Not all MoT stations will necessarily spot it!

in order to completely remove all traces of ABS you would have to also:
Change the front hubs for non-abs ones.
Remove all wiring
Remove ABS modulator
Re-pipe complete car
Install rear pressure regulator for non-abs car.
And I think the Master Cylinder may also be different.
All in all, not really worth it.
Instead, you could use the replacement axle, but with new pivot bearings, and your original ABS trailing arms. This would be a much better option, as it would retain the ABS, and fix the problem.

You may have problems come MOT test time.
If your testing station is computerised, the database could well show it up as being an ABS equiped car, in which case they will fail it as the ABS light isn't working!!

Had a similar issue with a 405 Sri which needed a new axle,i found a replacement axle from a 405 gri with discs but no abs,the peugeot specialist that swopped the axle managed to change the hubs and sensors from my old axle to the new one as it had all the mounting holes needed for abs.Worth looking at the new axle to see if this is the case with yours.
