2009 Clio DCI battery drain. Noise from engine bay

Unread post by Yewboy69 »

2009 Clio estate 1.5 dci

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping for a bit of help with an overnight battery drain on my Clio that it's just started doing.

There is a high pitch noise coming from what I believe to be the fuel injector pump ran off the timing belt. This noise stops when I disconnect the brown plug on it (fuel solenoid?)

Also the turbo solenoid is warm to the touch even when the engine is cold.

I am getting a power draw from the battery with everything turned off as below:

1.569 amps as it sits
1.049 amps with turbo solenoid disconnected
0.223 amps with turbo solenoid and brown plug on fuel pump disconnected

Has anyone any idea as to what to do next? I'm thinking it's a relay somewhere and someone can tell me where 🤞🏾

But I am open to any suggestions!

Thanks in advance

You may be able to find the wiring diagram here: https://fixmycarinfo.com/renault/clio-3 ... -diagrams/ :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

0.2 amps seems high when everything is shutdown, is the car not shutting down fully which is allowing the other things you have mentioned to still be on ?

How long after you switch everything off are you measuring that 0.223A drain?

It had been sat for probably 20 minutes.

I think I have figured it out.

I swapped the engine bay fusebox with one from our other Clio and the noise has gone. Current draw drops to 0.080 amps after about 30 seconds.

So replacement fuse box it is!

Thanks for all your input

Just to add to this for anyone reading in the future...

I actually just switched the engine control relay with the starter motor relay and it seems to have solved the problem without replacing the whole fuse box (I didn't expect the relays to come out but they did with some gentle persuasion!)

Result!
