Good morning,
New to the forum, but more so to decide if it is the 308’s last stand. Percy was brought new for my wife in sept 2013 the last of that model. Now covered 55k miles, relatively trouble free, other than 2 injectors and a couple of drive shafts, excluding 4 damaged wheels. The car has always been service by an independent garage, slight abs/esp issue with the passenger side rear, had the light put out of the last 6 years, some years it comes back on sometimes it doesn’t but will have that resolved at the mot. The plan was to pass the car on to my learner daughter, but I now have a few small gremlins which I will need to resolve to past the car on, under instructions of my wife.
1, The sat nav has always worked by now the car/arrow only moves in sudden increments so doesn’t show exact position but does show the correct road, just difficult in town centre's etc as the lag can lead to confusion. I have had this happen with a truck, and it was the dash gps module, but that showed me in France . So I had identified the rear Ariel to replace after the Mot. But could it be the amplifier module? And, can I update the satnav maps, the firmware is 2.75 SW RNEG2.75.C.5 sip nav+/connect nav +. I did see some dvds you could buy but they needed a firmware of 2.86 i believe.
2, The pop up screen shows interference, and sometimes just black, which can be resolved by adjusting screen positioning. It looks potentially like a connection, which could become apparent if I take this screen out. Is it likely to be as simple as replacing a lead? I have seen a few places that you can send the screens to and they send a replacement, but I would like to keep the one that is in the car but that may not be possible, depending on the likely diagnosis.
Happy to support the forum. But do you think this is the end of my wife’s 25 year Peugeot journey?
Regards

If the car has only 55k miles then I would say it is definitely worth saving!!

If you are thinking of replacing parts hoping to get it right before spending too much money I suggest you get a diagnostic check done first. Electrical parts are expensive so the diagnostic whilst being about £120 at a dealer can still be cost effective or if your independent garage has suitable equipment it may cost less.

Updating from 2.75 to a later version is certainly possible but I would caution against it unless you're having troubles with something else. That wouldn't include your black screen as that certainly sounds like a mechanical problem. I have updates for 2.77, 280, 2.85 and 2.86 as ISOs for burning to CD if you need them. I also have 2.86 as software to copy to a pen drive - assuming the RT6 in the 308 has a USB socket.
Map updates aren't a problem and I can supply links for that if you decide to go that route.

Re: 2013 308 hdi sat/nav and pop up screen
Good Morning
Thank you for the responses, I did take the screen out yesterday afternoon, and appear to have rectified the issue, which appeared to be wiring harness related at the pivot point, readjusted it and zip tied it back and now would seam to work fine. I did take my learner daughter out for a bit of practice for an hour with no issue. I have the car booked in for a Mot tomorrow and diagnostic check see what that brings.
As a question will the diagnostic check show any specific faults with the sat nav gps module or parts, and has anyone changed the rear Ariel to rectify a gps sat nav issue on a 308?
Lastly thank you Paul , I will be in contact later in the week to follow up on the updating firmware and maps

Well done Dave, always good to actually find a fault and fix it. Hopefully it will now lead to your daughter having a successful learning period and a pass first time!!

Excellent result.
All I can say is that it may do. Having said that, most people buy a cheap GPS aerial (with a Fakra connector) to see if that narrows down the fault. If it does fix the fault they then usually hide the aerial somewhere under the dashboard.Dave Safety wrote: 06 Oct 2025, 09:49As a question will the diagnostic check show any specific faults with the sat nav gps module or parts, and has anyone changed the rear Ariel to rectify a gps sat nav issue on a 308?

Re: 2013 308 hdi sat/nav and pop up screen
Update.
All faults rectified. Put a new rear hub and ABS sensor on the passenger side which cleared the ABS and ESP faults, I did see if I could clear the faults and see if that would eliminate them reoccurring which it didn’t, but had worked before. The Satnav now works correctly after putting the new parts on, which is a little odd but never the less. Paul what radio identification is required to upload the new firmware, and I imagine you plug it into the usb socket in the centre console.

Re: 2013 308 hdi sat/nav and pop up screen
Well, if you're not having any problems with the satnav now I would think very seriously about putting later firmware on. I suppose there's a possibility that it's a very early version so it would be a good idea to see what's fitted.
I don't know specifically what the buttons on the Mk1 308 are like but look for the one marked Setup and then, with the radio switched on, give it a long press. You may then get another screen with options but I can't remember what they'll be.
