Front strut failure hydractive 3

C5 X7 3.0 tourer.Front drivers side strut went, dropping car to floor and no power steering.Replacement gone again in 5 days.Does anyone have an idea where l should be looking for the problem??????

Did the system bleed OK to get the air out properly? How much driving did you do in that 5 days? I'm assuming there's no big pool of oil underneath the car.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

First of all, check the level of the LDS fluid!
Put the car in the lowest position and then you must see the LDS just at the bottom of the filling opening.

Thanks for replies ...the oil is along the road! the strut appeared to bleed wel,l nipple on top just like brake caliper?distance c100mls

When I changed the LH strut on my X7 a year or so ago I bled the system internally by making sure the suspension was at its lowest, starting the engine and then *slowly* moving the steering wheel from lock to lock. I had to do it in stages as the oil got rather aerated and I had to leave it to settle. It took a while but it eventually got there.

When you say the new strut has "gone" what do you mean? That corner has fallen down? There's a leak of fluid? The steering assistance has gone? Or what?
