Scenic 3 2010 alternator connector DTC920F81

Hello. Renault Scenic 3 2010 1.9 dCi 130 hp F9Q engine code. I have fault DTC920F81 and the battery warning light on the dash. The previous mechanic changed the alternator. The alternator is charging at 14.4 volts. My problem is that the connector to the alternator is connected strangely. Someone messed it up, I think. At the alternator connector, I have white and purple cables. The white cable connects to orange/brown (I think) in the wiring loom, and the purple one doesn't connect to anything; it's just left out. Could this be the problem for my fault on the dash? Can someone help me? Where does the purple one go? Is it okay if the white and orange/brown connect? Thanks for any help.
