Unread post by Adam1984 »

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what the best battery brand is please for my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, 2016, or are all batteries the same?

Thanks

All the same really but if you can get a 4 or 5 year guarantee on the battery then that's good.

Personally I make a point of having Yuasa batteries because over the years they have served me very well. Just today I replaced a Yuasa 3005 dated august 2016 in my Subaru for the same model. Together with Exide I'd say the pair are the market leaders. :-D

Exide seem to be quite good.

If you can choose, take the heaviest battery you can get.

Heaviest in weight? Why you say that?

I've checked before and found that Exide / Bosch / Varta / etc are basically the same - they can be made at the same factory !
Steer clear of 'bargain basement' batteries and 'own brand' stuff as they can be questionable - great for getting you going cheaply, not necessarily great for long term ownership.
As Mick said - Yuasa are good. I'd also go for the longer life Bosch, Exide, and Varta ones amongst others. Do take the time to check for offers via Eurocarparts, GSF, and Tayna (all actually the same company !), and also look on ebay for offers - some have 15% right at the moment.

Heavier means most probably more lead on the plates and thus longer life until they "dissolve" / break apart.

I take it you have never used ECP's own brand Lion batteries then?

I would say they are definitely not all the same, Yuasa are number 1 in my opinion & would always be my first choice.

Thanks to everyone.

I went to Kwik fit this morning and they did a battery test for me, and showed me their machine doing it and it showed good battery, they also said it looks new too. But we have had the car for a year now and we didn't replace it.

It's currently a Yuasa in too. A YBX7096

I only suggested the 4 or 5 year warranty as when I wasn't driving my car constantly the battery would die, I'd recharge etc etc, eventually it wouldn't hold charge. Glad it had a 5 year warranty, free replacement.

I know sorted now, but thought I’d add my views to this thread anyway.

Agree generally with bobbins on the brand advice and to buy the 4/5 year warranty versions rather than 3 or under - but Eurocarparts, GSF and Tanya are absolutely not the same company, or even owned by the same company.

As some others have said, avoid Lion like the plague unless you’re desperate and want to spend the minimum.

I have a lot of cars that are used sparingly, so unfortunately for me, I buy a lot of batteries #-o . I used to use batterymegastore, but their range of brands dropped and prices not so competitive anymore, so these days although I do shop around to check, I generally use Tanya - good selection, brilliant price (plus with Number27 YouTube discount) and amazingly given the distance, genuine next day delivery.

Batteries did not last too long on our C5 with it not getting used that often but I kept it charged up. Used ECP for an Exide 5 year one but after a few years it was not good so ECP replaced it but the replacement was not much better. Last one was a Yuasa from Halfords in a sale, again with quite a long warranty. Knowing batteries did not last long on the car I chose long warranties but also got them locally and from companies where it would be easy to return. I have used Tanya for a caravan battery.

Yep, I stand corrected. GSF and Eurocarparts were part of the same company, but the CMA told LKQ Group they had to split them off, so GSF are now part of the Parts Alliance Group. Tayna and Parts In Motion are owned by Alliance Automotive Group who also own the NAPA brand amongst an awful lot of other brands. There's been quite a few transfers of businesses and brands over the last few years !

I'd go for a Lion battery from Eurocarparts. ECP list 5 batteries for the 2016 C4 GP

Lion is £155
Exide is £264
Varta is £329

Now, they've all got the same 3 year warranties. I'm going for the cheapest one. I've used Lion batteries for years and never had an issue.
