Cylinder compression values Peugeot 5008

Unread post by dalin1970 »

Hello. I have a Peugeot 5008, 2.0hdi engine, code RHE from 2010. Please can someone tell me what the normal compression values are for the cylinders??? I measured the compression on the cylinders and the values are 15 bar, 16 bar, 15 bar and 20 bar (cylinder 1-2-3-4), and the car still doesn't start with starting spray. Are the values too low, does the engine need to be segmented??? Thanks in advance.

I would expect pressures in the 24-26 bar region, this thread may help: https://www.peugeotforums.com/threads/2 ... ons.26585/ :)

hanks for the answer. Another question, on the model presented, the order of the cylinders is with no. 1 at the gearbox and no. 4 at the timing??? I found the numbering from the gearbox to the timing in Autodata.

Yes that is correct, an anomaly of the PSA engines, they are numbered from 1 at the gearbox out to the timing cover. :)

Just my opinion, I dont think your pressures are too low to run, a good reading should be done on a warm engine to get an accurate reading, Those readings wont stop your engine starting. I would look elsewhere before stripping it down.. Check cambelt / Timing.

Is the battery in good condition and turning the engine over fast enough when trying to start - I think it has to be 300 rpm or more on a diesel.

Thanks for the answers. Unfortunately, PSA engines are very sensitive to compression, namely even if the compression is below 20 bar (some documentation says that 16 bar is the minimum allowed) you need a speed of at least 200 rpm, but you must not have a compression difference greater than 20%, which for me piston 1 has 20 bar and the rest 15-16 bar. With 3 ml of oil in the piston head I managed to obtain values equal to 18-20 bar, and so insufficient for starting, with a good battery....
