Missing green airbag socket

Hello everyone, my first post here, although I read the contents often.

I removed the airbag and the steering wheel on my 2004 1.6hdi Xsara Picasso in order to clean the contacts inside the COMM2000 unit. After a successful maintenance of the COMM2000 I started reassembling everything and noticed that the green (male) socket on the right hand side of the airbag was missing (the blue socket on the left side is there).
Although I looked everywhere inside the car I can't find it and then I started thinking it was never there and I don't see any traces if solder inside the steel socket where it should be. I've seen some photographs of some second hand airbags being sold that are also missing the green socket.
When I connect the blue connector and ground wire I get no airbag faults on the display. Is it safe to drive with the green socket missing?
What is the purpose of the green connector?

Some models have 2 level airbag igniters where the airbag can deploy with different levels of force depending of the severity of the impact. The wiring harness is standardised so even if it is only the single level igniter it still has wiring for both, The spare connector should clip into the empty hole to stop it flapping about behind the airbag.
You have nothing to worry about, this is normal.

Thank you for the answers. My guess is that it is as @wheeler says, a spare connector coming out of the COMM2000.
