DS3 error codes and fan problem

Unread post by minka_kirk »

hi, new here trying to help my son get to the bottom of what, if anything, can be done to sort out the issues he's having with his car, a 2015 DS3 DStyle + Puretech S/S
his first car, had it for about 9 months then car had problems with overheating and power cutting out. took it to our usual mechanic who stated was electrical fault and signposted us to Citroen garage, they said error code P0693 - FCU replaced. seemed to be fine for a couple of weeks then same thing. back to Citroen - error codes P0335, P13C1, P16DG - speed sensor replaced, connector for speed sensor replaced.

Again seemed to sort the issue the issue for a few days, then fan started running when car was off. battery drained, needed RAC to come and jump start. It's the strangest thing - turn the car off, fan goes off, get out and close the door - fan starts - and runs for a varying amount of time - between 5 - 15 minutes.

he loves the car but needs it to be reliable as he drives 12 miles to work each way. having spent more than £600 so far trying to get it sorted he's not keen to pay out any more if it's not fixable.

Thanks in advance for any insight / tips / advice

Hi and welcome to the FCF

The first thing I'd suggest is to clear the fault codes with a high end diagnostic kit and then carry out a formal BSI reset following the procedure in the link below. Having done that then you will be starting from a clean sheet and any faults that occur as he uses the car will be recorded but not confused by things that have been dealt with. Give that a go and then post up your findings and we can take the next steps if they are deemed necessary. :)

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

If you have a code reader with live data see what temperature the coolant is at and to confirm if it is over heating. Possible things to cause over heating can include a faulty thermostat, a water pump fault, low coolant level, head gasket fault, radiator fan not running when it should. If a 1.6 there may be an auxiliary water pump that is electric as well as the usual one.
