You and me both Steve - must be an age thing  Really looking foreword to seeing you :D
It's nothing new Jim. I should make better use of the Google Calendar. Use it for birthdays, meant to do it for son's wedding but keep forgetting and have asked him several times now.

Something on the 17th too, forget what.
I thought the 19th too but that is late wife's birthday. I always did remember that, she couldn't have cared less (unless I forgot, I expect).

I use it all the time. It's essential to me, I'd lost without it...

Hi Mick, thanks for the nudge (over in my blog) sorry I've not got back to you before now.

Sorry, not sure I'll get chance to meet up with you on this trip, been a busy few weeks and the date of your trip has rather caught up with me! :)

Hope you have a good trip and some reasonable weather! See you next time hopefully

That is a pity Matt, the next trip I am thinking about will be in the usually dead xmas-new year week so watch out for that one! :-D

Our adventure has kicked off in fine style with a visit to the National Railway Museum in York :D

It's all rather magical  Lots of work and remodelling is going on in and around the museum and it's showing lots of promise to be an even better place to visit when finished.

For me, as a massive fan of Diesel-Hydraulics, it was a bit of a disappointment not to see D1023 'Western Fusilier' there. It's currently on loan to the GWS at Didcot.

Seeing Deltic 55002/D9002 'King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry' made up for it though ;)

York itself is good for a stroll around as well. Really quite a pleasant little town :D

This evening Jim and I were sitting having dinner when I got a bit of a shock when I thought Jesus or possibly Bill Bailey had walked into the pub!!

Although i didn't actually go in to the museum, I was talking to the bloke directing traffic into the car parks when all the cars stopped.

To allow a hen pheasant and her troop of nine chicks to cross the road.
It was a delightful sight

It was superb in every way and you joining us Gary, was a total surprise to me. I only knew when you got in the back of the car outside your house!!!

It was really great to see you Gary

And great to see you again Steve :D

Beamish was very good and the parts of the new 1950s bit especially so.

I well and truly got lost in time in the Radio and TV shop, especially the workshop... I started my career in a very similar shop all those years ago. Living history for me.

One of the unexpected highlights for me was the cinema, especially the projection room :)
20250905_140627.jpg
There were two of these projectors and one was open so that the mechanism and carbon-arc lamp could be seen in detail.

And Autumn would love the toyshop :D I did too ;)

Toy road drill anyone? With that we could fix our own potholes

All in all it's been a fantastic trip and huge thanks to Mick, Gary and Steve for making it so :D

Never had chance to ask but how did you like Thirsk?
The bloke directing the traffic was telling me that he and his family go on holiday there every year.

They must be a family of very limited horizons!! It is a place, basically a crossroads surrounded by shops and houses!! Quaint maybe but had we been inclined we could have seen it all in a morning. My 5th or 6th time there amd other than a well siituated overnight halt it hasn't got much to excite me!! :-D

I've been a few times but not recently. My daughter used to have to deliver baked goods there and hated it, never anywhere to park.

He said they had a cabin near the lake there.

It looked a nice little town and I can imagine the scenery around Sutton Bank and up on the ridge is rather spectacular... It looked great from a distance - it was not far from our overnight stop - and it looks very interesting when viewed on the OS map of the area...
