I Spy a 75 reg
I am concerned that the weather may be becoming more severe then the various weather forecasters are letting on. On the M1 this morning (between Newport Pagnell and Long Eaton) I spotted seven (yes, SEVEN) snowploughs heading south. Why is this relevant here? Because all seven were bran new, and were 75 reg!
(In case anybody wonders how I could read the reg when I was on the opposite carriageway it is because the front number plates were mounted just below the windscreen, so as to be visible regardless of the position of the actual snow plough).
(Oh, and I did not misspell brand new! The correct spelling dates back a few hundred years (before packing materials such as bubble wrap), when fragile items were shipped in packing crates full of bran flakes. It was a status thing to be able to show new crockery with a few bran flakes clinging to them.).

Re: I Spy a 75 reg
I was quite shocked when I saw Kellogg's new grit lorries spreading gravel during the heat wave!!! Also northerners pronounce it Bath rather than Barth which is incorrect as it was spelt Bavth originally in Roman times, the V was pronounced as an R. Now that I've lit that fire I'm going to sit and watch

Re: I Spy a 75 reg
Something may well be afoot for this winter...... The gas board dug up the road in town here a few weeks ago to reconnect the gas main properly - it'd been severed and redirected a couple of years ago when the hotel in town burnt down. The reason they wanted to sort out the gas pipe now ???? ....so they could get a full gas supply to the town centre this winter as they thought they'd need it. They didn't want the full supply last year though

Re: I Spy a 75 reg
We've had lots of gas works done round here recently replacing the old pipes for plastic pipes. Maybe you were lucky and they decided to wait to replace rather than dig it up twice! If all parties time it right you may get a new tarmacked road without any cuts on it!!!! Yes I know a new tarmacked road is like flies to crap for BT, Gas and Leccy boards...

You never know, after a record-breaking summer we may just be in for a record-breaking winter...

On the way home from Jim's I spotted a BMW i7 in black, no picture as I was driving but a hideous looking thing as this pic from the web shows!!:
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: I Spy a 75 reg
Big is not always beautiful and I do not care much for the black satin paint finishes/wraps some people have on cars. Might suit footballers with money to spare though. Years ago cars were all about improving fuel economy by stream lining but now it seems to be make them as big as possible and charge more for the extra metal. Might have been a BBC article that was saying manufacturers are pushing SUVs since they charge more and make more profit.

Looks like a Rolls Royce copy to me. I used to say Porsches are a cheap mans Ferrari, looks like BMW want a cheap Rolls. It's strange how everyone wants a massive car now....my question is why?

And succinctly demonstrates how the BMW grille gets bigger and bigger with every new model. Give it a few years an the BMW will be all grille...mickthemaverick wrote: 06 Sep 2025, 19:38 On the way home from Jim's I spotted a BMW i7 in black, no picture as I was driving but a hideous looking thing as this pic from the web shows!!:![]()

And, what is worse, the grill surround lights up when the external lights are turned on.

Re: I Spy a 75 reg
You pay £140k for a car and that is what everyone will see as you approach, seems to lack class. Out of interest I looked the car up, accelerates fast (0 to 60 about 3 seconds), is comfy and an option is for a fold down cinema screen in the back. Four wheel steering is an option to help negotiate bends due to its 5.3 m length. The boot is only 500 litres and the rear seats do not fold down and no storage under the bonnet.

Which is a bit ironic, considering who owns Rolls Royce Cars.Rp0thejester wrote: 06 Sep 2025, 23:37 Looks like a Rolls Royce copy to me. I used to say Porsches are a cheap mans Ferrari, looks like BMW want a cheap Rolls. It's strange how everyone wants a massive car now....my question is why?
