Hello
Peugeot 207 / 2011 1.4 Envy
My dipped and sidelights stopped working yesterday. I checked the relays in the engine fuse board and found the middle one to be wet inside and corroded (I saw a video on youtube that said it is a common issue for the middle one to get wet due to a screen wash failure and capillary action but not how that would have caused it)
Some of the pins broke off inside the relay housing as I took the relay off (even though I removed it very gently). The pins were very corroded and rusty.
Would I need to get a whole new fuse board and relay, rewired and fitted ,
Or could i just get a new relay housing (the brown plastic box
relay housing that the relays goes into, so not the whole fuse board changed) and a new relay fitted.
Im guessing it would take quite a while to get all the rewiring done either way.
Any info welcome and rough estimate on price for supply and fit would also be helpful.

I'd be surprised if you can replace just the relay socket with a new part but you may be able to get a good salvage one and wire it in yourself wire for wire. not easy and possibly not worth the hassle compared with swapping out the fusebox. This link may give you some more ideas: https://www.peugeotforums.com/threads/p ... ox.370722/
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I would agree that a replacement fusebox (probably second hand) is the best solution. Ensure that the 96xxxxxxxx number in your photo matches the replacement. You should also try to get the damaged connector with a few inches of wire cut from a scrap car, and splice it into yours.

Thanks for your replies Mick and Xantia..
Any idea how the water gets in there in the first place> as the other 2 relays look completely dry.
I saw one video that said its related to a failed screen washer pump and capillary action.
Not sure if that is the case though?? if it is could I wrap something around each wire to stop the capillary action
Or could it be due to really heavy rain and the location of the central/ middle Relay means its more likely to take in water (if so im wondering if I could protect the relay or the whole fusebox so water doesn't get in again.
Thank you

I have no knowledge of the fault as described in the video, but I do know a bit about making water go where you want it to. So once you have replaced the fusebox and plug, and maybe the washer pump if that turns out to be faulty, I would suggest you install a preventative dam and wick around the wires that purportedly take the water into the fusebox. By wrapping a silicone bead around the wires and embedding a suitable cotton 'wick' at the bottom which you can then hang down the inside of the wing to channel the water down and onto the floor. I'd use something very water friendly like twisted wool or cottons to make the wick, I have used cotton cloth before as you can see here: viewtopic.php?p=816813&hilit=leak#p816813
That particular wick has been in place since the date of that post and is still working well and keeping the beam bone dry!!

There is also a known fault where the coolant temperature sensor leaks and coolant travels. Inside the wire, corroding the ECU connector, but I don't know if it is applicable to your car.

https://www.simtekuk.co.uk/product.php/ ... :::7171231 Not sure how trusted the site is, but you can buy the connector. The fuse box is going to be difficult to find. Tried getting one from ebay, but didn't fit. Even though the part numbers matched. Also don't know how to change the connector itself. One guy recommended to cut the wires off and then reconnect them, but this sounds like an awful solution, only as a last resort.

I did indeed have a leaking / cracked thermostat and thermostat housing that got replaced 2 years ago. So that could be why the middle ECU connecters got damp and corroded in the first placexantia_v6 wrote: 26 Aug 2025, 18:44 There is also a known fault where the coolant temperature sensor leaks and coolant travels. That is a different problem. The temperature sensor leaks inside the electrical connector and pushes coolant through the wires with no sign of an external leak.JeremyMann74 wrote: 03 Sep 2025, 14:12I did indeed have a leaking / cracked thermostat and thermostat housing that got replaced 2 years ago.
