If you can refit the cable do so. If the terminal has broken off the motor (or the wire has broken close to the motor) you may be able to carefully solder another wire on. Otherwise the nice way of doing it is to solder the wire or crimp on a ready made but splice. A perfectly satisfactory alternative is to use one of the paired screw terminals sold in a strip by B & Q and other DIY shops.
Make sure the wire isn't being trapped or stretched when the door opens and closes etc.

Noz gave a handy guide to fixing a similar problem on the XM:

Having just been through a similar problem with my Xantia, try to avoid using the winder mechanism without the cable attached as this can allow what is left of the cable to chew up the plastic drum that it wraps around and may also put kinks in the good half of the cable.
If it is the same mechanism as the xantia you need to remove the metal cap that sits over the top of the cable winding drum which is rivited on, probably need to drill/remove the top of this carefully. You'll need to take the lot out of the car to do this.
I took mine apart, then realised that I had chewed the drum up too badly so found a new winder from a scrappy.
Good luck
Mark.
