I once had one mess up a sportive event I was riding down in the West Country. We all had to be brought to a halt whilst a bike race zoomed across in front of us at a crossroads.Rp0thejester wrote: 19 Aug 2025, 22:58 Well I'm glad I warned you about it, it's one thing watching it on the TV, completely different feeling when it messes up your travel plans.

Re: CitroJim's AX, C3 Picasso, Cycling and Running Tales
Currently having a lot of ear trouble. Severe vertigo, balance problems and generally feeling rubbish
So bad yesterday, I had to seek medical attention.
Made an appointment request online at exactly 8AM when the system went live, got called by a doctor at 8:15 and at 9:15 I was being attended to at the surgery...
Now on antibiotics to combat a rather well-developed infection... Had to wait a bit for my medication as the chemist's servers were down. It affected virtually all chemists in MK, such is their monopoly. And being unable to drive currently, my options were limited as to how far I could travel to find a chemist that both had what I needed and was able to dispense. Happily, our local one came back on-line sooner than expected...
Can't cycle or run either

Shows the downside and how vulnerable we all are when there's a 100% reliance on one IT system. Even if they could be issued by the GP, the chemist told me that even if a paper prescription was offered, with no access to the 'system' they still couldn't dispense...
Worrying.

That is indeed a concern Jim.

I do Mick but the problem is, how do you stop a runaway juggernaut? That's basically what it is...mickthemaverick wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 18:01I've been saying that about the internet for years but nobody listens!!CitroJim wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 17:57

No need for us to worry Jim, it will be self regulating, by the time there are only electric vehicles on the road and being charged overnight there won't be enough power left to run the data centres!!CitroJim wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 18:18

I still can't believe how you can get seen so quickly at your surgery. Here it's open at 0800, website freezes due to demand, and then everything is booked by 0801.
I'm no stranger to running round the shops looking for medication as my other halfs anti seizure medication regularly goes out of stock and I have to go running around trying to find any.
If you get stuck in the future Jim, please don't feel you can't reach out. I'm happy to do a bit of legwork if you're stuck.

Re: CitroJim's AX, C3 Picasso, Cycling and Running Tales
Hope you get well asap.
Ear infections must be an important thing for doctors. At our doctors they have an on-line message system where you get in touch to say what the symptoms are and then somebody looks at it and late in the day you get a message back. There is no phoning up to see a doctor or on-line booking, they stopped that in 2020 when covid started. For my ongoing problems if they think I should see a doctor I get a message saying to make the next routine appointment and that is usually in 4 weeks. However, Mrs P has been having ear problems and they have been in touch the same day and she has been seen then. Often they decide what is wrong without seeing you and send a prescription to the chemist. They can get it wrong though when not seeing you such as when Mrs P broke a foot bone which the doctor initially diagnosed as gout and it took a month to diagnose after finally getting an X-ray.

Trick here Zel, is to have the appointment booking system open on your PC at 07:59 and on the sounding of the last pip on the BBC radio just before the news, hit the refresh buttonZelandeth wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 22:11 I still can't believe how you can get seen so quickly at your surgery. I often joke that when they call up my records a little siren goes off and a message pops up on the screen to say 'His daughter's a senior nurse, don't mess him about...'
We seem to be singularly fortunate that our medical centre seems to work very well. It's huge now and spread across three sites...
Thanks Zel, that's hugely appreciated and it goes without saying, it goes the other way tooZelandeth wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 22:11 If you get stuck in the future Jim, please don't feel you can't reach out. I'm happy to do a bit of legwork if you're stuck.

Ahh, but that's been sorted Mick. The hordes of people made redundant by AI will be gainfully employed to run in massive hamster wheels connected to generators to keep the data centres up and running...mickthemaverick wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 18:26 No need for us to worry Jim, it will be self regulating, by the time there are only electric vehicles on the road and being charged overnight there won't be enough power left to run the data centres!!![]()
Peanut farmers will get very rich as they'll be in great demand to provide the fuel for all those working the hamster wheels...

I'm having a lot of fun trying to work out what that might mean Alasdair...
In my world, NFB is Negative FeedBack. Use of which is made to control gain and frequency response in amplifiers, especially audio ones...
Never have I felt the need to give such feedback to our medical centre
In my case, the words 'No', 'F**k' along with variations thereof and 'B**t**d' come to mind...
Perhaps it's supposed to be NTFDBA... 'Not That F***ing Difficult B***** Again
