Hi,
I just bought a Lexia 3 Diagbox 7.83 Full Chip tool including the software in order to diagnose a fault on my Citroen Xsara Forte.
The actual tool looks OK, but when I have installed the software they provided an installation password Scary01 in order to activate it. I have input that and it has failed activation. The computer is not connected to the Internet and I am using Windows 7 professional. I had to instal a virtual CD and install the software to that as advised by the supplier.
Currently the software shows 7.01 but it is not activated. I have read that I need an APDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch file which if I copy to C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\ then this should fix the activation.
Would anyone have a copy of such a file they could share?
Regards Ian

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
I'll install Lexia on another laptop one of these days, and I'll send you the file (if I remember to save it before I proceed with the upgrade
).

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
Some things don't fit.
The APDIAG.SYS location C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\ can only be copied and used from your own PC, because it contains the data of the hard disk and the software version.
If you change the software version or the hard drive, the APDIAG.SYS can no longer be used.
Whether the APDIAG.SYS is saved with 7.01 or better with 7.02 is not important.
However, 7.01 cannot be used for diagnosis and only when this is completed by the automatic installation of 7.02 can a diagnosis be started or further updates be possible.
Updates higher than 7.57 or 7.62 are very rarely useful and should be omitted for vehicles up to the beginning of 2015.

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
Hello everyone,
I’m currently working on installing DiagBox version 7.57 on my PC and I’ve reached the point where I need a properly patched APPDIAG.SYS file to unlock expert mode and full functionality.
I’ve activated DiagBox manually using the “scary01” code, and the system generated an APPDIAG.SYS file with the profile 02FFFFFF. However, upon launching DiagBox, it gets overwritten with 02FFF000 and expert mode remains unavailable.
I understand that the file needs to be exactly 196 bytes and include a valid signature to prevent DiagBox from modifying it. I’ve tried manually editing the file, but DiagBox still requests online activation.
Would anyone be able to help me generate a valid APPDIAG.SYS file for my system, or share the tool/script used to patch it correctly?
Here are my system details:
- Hard drive name: SSDST256GBS33TMYSH ATA Device
- Hard drive serial number: 5453353232363235313533333439202020202020
- DiagBox version: 7.57
- OS: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (x86)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
As cit-rotti says, you can only use an APPDIAG.SYS that has been generated on the actual computer that you've installed Diagbox on to so nobody can generate it for you.

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
Hello, thank you for the clarification.
I fully understand that the APPDIAG.SYS file needs to be generated on my computer, and I'm more than willing to do it myself. The problem is that I don't have the tool to generate or correct it.
If anyone could point me in the right direction to find the tool to correct my APPDIAG.SYS on my machine, I would be very grateful.
Thanks again for your help!

I don't know of any such tool. APPDIAG.SYS is created as part of the installation process that Diagbox undertakes.

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
I don't quite understand your problem – your vehicle can only be read with LEXIA 3 – this software is included in every DB . If the DB software 7.xx is installed on Windows 7 64-bit, the LEXIA part will not install because, up to version 9.25, the LEXIA software requires a 16-bit system, and neither WIN 10/64 nor WIN 7/64 have a 16-bit system – nor does 10/32-bit.
This has nothing to do with Appdiag.Sys.
Solutions:
Either install on XP prof Sp3 or on WIN 7 32-bit Pro – at least 1 GB RAM (preferably 3 GB RAM) and a dual processor are required
Alternatively,
install software version 9.xxx on a WIN7 64-bit//WIN10 64-bit system – LEXIA will work there because PSA has converted everything to a 32-bit system since 9.25.
If you still have an old laptop with XP with only 0.5 GB RAM and only one processor, you could also just install LEXIA 345 + Update 348 – this would be sufficient for Citroën vehicles up to 2009.
Software and, where necessary, activation programmes can usually be downloaded from

Best regards, Wolfgang

Re: APPDIAG.SYS diagbox 7.01 patch
Thank you very much for your reply and for the link — I’ll take some time to check it out this weekend, probably on Saturday. Hopefully it’ll help me unlock that elusive expert menu.
Let me clarify the issue I’m facing:
I’m using a genuine Lexia 3 interface with DiagBox v7.57 on Windows 7 32-bit, and the Lexia part is properly installed and working.
The problem isn’t with the installation itself, but with accessing advanced functions: the expert menu doesn’t appear, and that’s precisely the menu I need to perform PIN code telecoding in the BSI and ECU.
I’ve correctly configured the APPDIAG.SYS file with the scary01 profile and the value 02FFF000, which should grant access to the expert pack.
However, the expert menu remains hidden in the interface, and the “Fault Finding” function is also missing.
Do you have any suggestions or a workaround to force the expert menu to show up in this setup?
I’ll keep you posted once I’ve tested what you shared.
Best regards,
GuillaumeC57
