ESP/ASR SYSTEM FAULT 2014 Citroen C5 2.0 hdi vtr+

Unread post by AlanHtch »

Car is in limp mode !! Driving out of a junction, engine revved up above my control with accelerator, pulled over switched it off straight away, started it again then ESP/ASR Faulty warning. Engine idles normal. Noticed a couple of times before this happend on starting , very rough idleing switching off and restarting seemed to clear that?? not sure if symptoms are related. Having error codes read and hopefully fixed by a machanic in morning. Hopefull not an expensive module job.

Good luck with the diagnosis, further comment may not be appropriate until your mechanic has had a look :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Hi thanks for your reply regarding Ctiroen. Machanic suspected ESU fault so no repair. However ! i tried to start the car after he'd gone ,would not start but noticed engine turned over very sluggish so decided to put battery on charge for a while, thats when i noticed a loose negative cable. Disconnected battery and continued to charge it. reconnected after a while, tight cables this time. car started and revved ok all warnings gone short test drive seemed ok ? i'd be very interested in your opinion.
Many thanks.

A general opinion is that nothing to do with Citroen electrics suprises me anymore! :-D Unfortunately the modern way of having every aspect of a car's electrical systems under constant monitoring tends to throw up all sorts of spurious faults, many of which are often down to poor connections, corroded plugs and sockets or even just water ingress after a particularly heavy downpour. Best to be happy that it works again and maybe spend a pleasant Sunday morning with a can of contact cleaner going through all the plugs and fuses you can find. :)

Difficult to know based on just the symptoms alone, but firstly well done getting it sorted yourself - hopefully it now continues to be trouble free.
Second thought is... If the mechanic diagnosed that as an ECU fault, then get a new mechanic next time! (Most of the time garages say something is a faulty ECU, it isn't - it means they haven't got a clue and are just loading the parts cannon with your money...)
