Re: C5 Lexia help!
Maybe a check and clean of the camshaft sensor plug ?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: C5 Lexia help!
I had thought of the camshaft sensor Mick but not done anything about it, partly because I don't know where it is. Anyway it sounds as though it could possible be that, I will give it a go.

Re: C5 Lexia help!
This seems very similar to my crankshaft sensor problems. Peter I also changed the camshaft sensor but made no difference so put old one back on.
I used my original crankshaft sensor which I replaced with new and problem disappeared.
Once the new sensor was fitted with newly wired plug no further problems. I suspect the slightest break in the wiring which allows water ingress is the probable cause.

Re: C5 Lexia help!
Most of the time its running OK but its better with the MAF unplugged, tried another MAF and it was the same. Unplugged the cam sensor today expecting the engine to stop - it didn't in fact it ran more smoothly so I am going to swap the sensor and see it it makes any difference.

Re: C5 Lexia help!
Where did you get our new MAF Peter? I ask as at one time there were some very dodgy ones knocking around the after-market. Especially ones sourced from a well-known Internet site...
If you got a no-name special from the likes of Arfur Daly it might be worth trying a known good quality one...
I once ran into that trap with cheap oxygen sensors... They worked great - for a month or so...

Re: C5 Lexia help!
The MAF came from the car in the field Jim, it was working fine until I parked the car up there but it has been started a few times since, no more though as the plug is missing from the crank sensor!

Re: C5 Lexia help!
If i remember right you rotate one of the little wheels of the steering controls & it can cycle through different things that it can display, so you can have it displaying things like the music or radio station, navigation info or a digital speedo reading.Peter.N. wrote: 27 Jul 2025, 19:01 . It is doing another thing I have never seen before, in the speedo centre display it keeps telling me what road I am in, also has a compass with a blue needle. Is it supposed to do that or has it had a nervous breakdown?
Sounds like you have just rotated it by mistake.
As far as the camshaft sensor goes if its the same as older DW series engines the camshaft position sensor is only used on initial start-up to determine what position the engine is in to know when to fire the initial first injection phase, after the engine is running the ECU has no need for this info & uses the crank sensor, if you unplug the cam sensor whilst the engine is running it will stay running perfectly until you switch the engine of then it won re start.

Thanks for that, I have been running these for some years now and still keep finding out things. The speedo central display is now doing something magic, if the satnav is on it displays all the essential information in the speedo window, miles to next roundabout or junction and as you are approaching it, puts up an arrow to show you where to go! The best thing is that you can see it all the time, don't have to look away, pity I didn't know about it before.
Jim
It must be the best value for money C5 I have bought, its done 155k but it looks like less than half of that, it looks immaculate, 'wicked red' and drives like new. Needs a couple of front spheres as they are practically flat but it still rides OK. There is a hydraulic leak but not from the power steering! I will investigate tomorrow. Oh £1100. 2009.

Sounds like a good buy Peter, I loved my Wicked Red C5 but traded it in for the Legacy when it hit 200k, and that was a Mk1!!

Re: C5 Lexia help!
I drove it back from Worcester Mick and it seemed fine, although when I checked it at the sellers house, it sounds and feels fine but there was quite a fluid leak from the reservoir area, don't know what it was but it seems to have stopped. It was dripping from everywhere under the tank as if it were squirting from a small hole but I drove it about 160 miles home and not only did it not run out of fluid, there was no sign of it when I got home. Shall have a look tomorrow. Has cream leather upholstery, looks nice only problem with that is that if you clean your car as often as I do its going to get dirty!

Re: C5 Lexia help!
Peter,
nice you found a hydraulic C5 x 7, great cars to drive.
Re you LDS leak could the previous owner over filled reservoir. Hence leak or if I remember correctly there is small hose connected to the tank can't remember its purpose or simply a cracked tank which happens if car is raised wrongly.

Re: C5 Lexia help!
Ah Kenny, I wondered if perhaps that had happened as there is no evidence of a leak on the ground but I will look underneath today. It does seem to be slow to rise and fall when asked, but not having experienced an electrically pumped system before I wondered if the just are.
I also still have a problem with the crankshaft sensor car, it drives fine but when ticking over it runs for a few seconds and the 'hiccups' and continues to do it, it occasionally stops although starts immediately. I have changed the camshaft sensor with little or no effect.
