Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
Following my previous post I've been to local garage and they have quoted £90 per hour just to diagnose it. From all the useful post on here I'm sure it's the BPGA. Can someone confirm the part number I require and if it needs programming. My VIN is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] many thanks in advance

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
Hi,
I found the forum looking for answers to issues that arose with my 308 SW (2017) yesterday:
- Wing mirrors didn't fold out when unlocking the car
- Battery charge fault shown on the console and service light on the dash
- Check fog lights message in on-screen diagnostics
(all errors disappeared after switching fogs on an off a couple of times)
Based on messages here, it looks like the BPGA is faulty/failing.
Could somebody confirm whether programming/coding is required for a replacement unit on my vehicle, or if a (careful) replacement is sufficient?
VIN - VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Also - for a long time, the Start/Stop hasn't activated when expected, even with as much electrical load as possible switched off and after long journeys when the battery would typically be fully charged. Often the car would go into economy mode very quickly after switching on or off - is this likely to be BPGA related as well, or something else?
Much appreciated.

How old is the battery?
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
If this was aimed at me:
Not entirely sure, as I've never replaced it, but I think it *might* have been replaced about 5 years ago when it went to the dealer to check the Start/Stop system. I can't remember if it was changed then or not.

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
So it's no younger than 5 years then? I think it's possible the battery may be in need of replacement. A lot of what you describe are symptoms of an old battery.
Is there anywhere near to you that could do a battery check with a decent battery tester? I believe that Halfords can offer this service. Also, if you have a smart battery charger then you could leave it on charge for a few days (overnight at the very least to see if it can be revived a bit.
As far as I know the BPGA does not need coding in. But we're not at that state yet!

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
I agree with Paul-R: check the battery first - it's easier and cheaper than replacing the BPGA (although the latter is quite straightforward if you're careful).

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
Thanks.
I've tested the resting voltage, which is ~12.2v after not being run since 10pm yesterday.
While running, it's just over ~14v with radio, screen heater, lights and blower on full.
I've got a smart battery charger, but it's one for RC batteries (LiPo, Nimh, Nicad etc), so I'm not sure it would be suitable.
I've tried to get it booked in to be checked at Halfords, but the garage said take it to the store and the (central) store phone line said take it to the garage, but they'd get the store to call me back. Waiting...
It's never had any problem starting, or running, it's just the new errors that flashed up yesterday and the Economy mode/ start stop issue that have been long running.

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
That's not really giving the battery a good testing unfortunately. You need a special battery tester which can measure characteristics inside the battery

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
I managed to get it tested at Halfords this morning, and they said it's fine and 'probably just needs to be charged up'. Their advice was to take it for a run on the motorway and drop to fifth for 2-3 mins when at 70. The Yuasa tester they used said 'Good Battery' but didn't give any more detail than that.Paul-R wrote: 06 Jun 2025, 16:37 That's not really giving the battery a good testing unfortunately. Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
I'm back to share the results on my suspected BPGA issues on my Traveller. I know I am in this thread with wrong car, but I have not found any proper information on Traveller/Expert/SpaceTourer/ProAce advice not either replay to my post up here, but I solved that few weeks ago.
First my old car scanner did not provided great results on faults so I dig out old laptop freshly installed Win11 and latest FreeDiagbox from some information found up here, got cable from friend who didn't needed it anymore, got that to work.
After scan I discovered Christmas tree of faults, power steering, abs, immobiliser , main beam headlamp, engine managment ecu etc, but most important fault on show was
B1624 72 - Supplies protection and managment unit: Central power switch positive relay status : relay opened
My BPGA part number 9822150080 wasn't accessible on ebay or Aliexpress and some other sellers in europe had a note it needs to be codded. After little bit of playing with Diagbox came across the BPGA2010 Identification and that listed :
Equipment part number 9667108680 - BPGA which is not installed on my car
Equipment additional reference 9822150080 - that the original BPGA broken part on my car
Diagnostics e-mail 9665073199 - do not know what that means
Messaging index OR - do not know what that means
Date of manufacture 07/08/2018 - as per label on my broken BPGA unit
Part serial number 0ADC01CB - as per label on my broken BPGA unit
From that I bought 9667108680 from NeoBrothers on ebay which was cheaper than the 9822150080 (citroencarpatrs) on the car and when I done research on sellers from outside of uk no one stated it has to be codded.
The swop of the units is quite straight forward, followed the BSI reset/disconnecting/connecting battery, took loads of pictures of both sides to make sure I can clearly see the colours and position of wires and fuses. For more hand space I removed Air intake plastic pipe - like when removing oil filter, as connected wires are quite short. Had to swapped/moved few BPGA fuses and posts on new unit to have exact layout as on old unit. Most important transferred two small fuses at the top. Reconnected the battery with BSI reset procedure and Hurray no fault on dash, fan is blowing air, el.windows work, after starting car and small drive, ABS ok, power steering works. Hooked the laptop and deleted stored faults, used car for couple weeks, hooked laptop again - NO FAULTS
So the intermittent No Charge Fault I had two years is solved.

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
Can what be replaced? The BPGA? Yes.
I don't think it needs programming for the 308.

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
Hi there! Sorry for restarting old topic.
The problem (Electric circuit error, Battery charging error) came first a year ago. I replaced a battery (it was still original) and problem disappeared.
Till now. Besides dashboard messages the car experienced no faults. After yearly maintenance I was told to prepare 800 Euro for new part and work and I took time to think about.
But after one week in garage the car's battery was drained completely.
As 800 euro was still not an option, I have replace BPGA following advices from this thread with completely drained battery.
The part: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/10050031 ... pt=glo2deu
1. I did connection to a new BPGA one contact after another to avoid mistakes.
2. Two fuses on a new part were missing, so I took them from old.
3. After replacement I started my car using booster (don't know how it can be properly called)
Electric circuit error is gone, but I have now engine error and permanently shimmering rear lights.
Do you gays have any thoughts why lights shimmer (flicker quickly)?
And was engine error mainly due to completely drained battery?

Re: BPGA replacement on 308SW
Have you done a BSI reset since changing the BPGA?
