Hi everyone, this is sort of a last resort for me as a result of days of mucking about to no avail.
Purchased a Citroen C4 which by the word of a mechanic needed a new starter motor and new com2000. This has now translated into an ordeal like none i've ever dealt with.
My first drive in the car to home showed 0 fuel in the tank to which I knew was incorrect. So I pull the pump out and low and behold there is a break in the sender (great, so I solder it back on)
in the meantime I also painfully replaced the starter motor and replace the com2000. Obviously looking back not doing 1 thing at a time and ensure it works properly was a dumb idea but now the car will not turn over and the fuel pump continually primes.
amidst the com2000 replacement I noticed the grey plugs terminals were in bad shape so I took photo's of the orientation and somehow managed to lose the photo and can find 0 guidance on the correct orientation apart from what "logic dictates"
BSI resets show that the fuel sender works and the dash works but the mfd does not and because the fuel pump continually primes the car will not turn over.

If it was running why did you need to replace the starter & com2000? Really need a bit more info.
I would always be very weary of people selling cars where they tell you what’s wrong with it and “it just needs a……”
When you say the fuel pump runs all the time do you mean when you switch the ignition on? If so are you sure it never done this before? Not something you may notice if the car is running.
Kind of sounds like someone has done a dodgy bypass on the fuel pump relay, Is there any dodgy looking non original wiring in the under bonnet fusebox?

So after much mucking around today, there is more context to this, I broke the locking ring by cross threading it. went to the wreckers and replaced it....could not for the life of me get it to seat properly.
Turns out it had a different fuel tank installed and my replacement locking ring would never work. So back trying to epoxy my broken one to see if it is indeed a seating issue..

I have previously recovered a split fuel pump locking ring by putting a large jubilee clip around it. The big clip came from a drier venting kit, maybe a big zip tie would also work.

How much fuel was in the tank when you removed the ring?
Its not uncommon for plastic tanks to distort if the ring is removed when the tank has too much fuel.
I would never remove one now unless it has a good bit less than half a tank of fuel in it.

This is actually a gold idea, the epoxy didn't quite hold through the "tap tightens" with the mallet and piece of wood.xantia_v6 wrote: 27 Jul 2025, 11:01 I have previously recovered a split fuel pump locking ring by putting a large jubilee clip around it. was about 120kms in the tank, so definitely under halfwheeler wrote: 27 Jul 2025, 11:21 How much fuel was in the tank when you removed the ring?
