Berlingo B9 1.6d 2010
Hello all,
My a/c has not be working very well for awhile but with this hotter than usual weather I thought I would check it out.
Its probably never had a top up since new so that may have a bearing on my problem.
When stationary with engine cooling fan on , both pipes from the compressor are cold , but when the fan switches itself off the pipes start to heat up so the cool air temp in the cab gets warmer. The cooling fan comes on and the pipes get cool again, when driving the fan does not come on , no need for cooling the engine and so the a/c blows warm air .
The clutch on the compressor pump works, the fan comes on and off as required and the relay beside the fan works i think . I checked the a/c pressure with Lexia and got 6.1 bar.
Any ideas anyone , if a top up will help or could it be something else. Please before I melt.

I would advise taking it to an aircon garage to have it regassed. They will conduct a vacuum test first and if that is all ok a fresh fill may solve your problem.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Sounds as if there is not enough refrigerant, at least with it still having pressure you know there is unlikely to be a leak but a good place to check is the front condenser to see if there is any sign of oil weeping out. If enough you ought to get about 10 to 15 degrees reduction in temperature through the central vents with the blower on full.

Hi , Thanks for the replies,
I will it topped up and see what happens.
The thing is I hope that the compressor has not been damaged , when it runs it is slightly cool at first then starts to heat up until it works like a heater with warm to hot air coming out of the vents.
I'll let yous know the outcome after topping up, could be awhile though as it involves a 100 mile round trip.

Re: Berlingo B9 air con.
The compressor should warm the gas up as well as increase its pressure so it can then condense at the front of the car in the condenser. It has to be above the outside temperature, otherwise it could not be cooled and condensed back to liquid ready to evaporate again in the cabin.

Thanks for that , that explains why it was getting hot, I couldn't understand that is how it works and was thinking a new compressor needed.
