All keys lost mode, cant re-link remote

Unread post by shezza »

Hi all,

While I own a 2015 DS3 Sport, I am sure this is not DS specific, probably not even Citroen specific.

Don't ask me how, but both of my keys transponders stopped working. Ended up reporgramming some transponders, though in this process, it wiped off my old keys, including the remote function.

I followed the procedure to reconnect the remote and I am getting nothing. Even tried a new battery for good measure.

Chatgpt thinks there is a mode in Diagbox (I have V7.62 and an aftermarket VCI, so am nervous to upgrade it) to reprogram the remote, though it sent me down a path that doesn't exist.

Are these keys permanently banished or something?

I have confirmed they are putting off a signal.

TIA

All keys must be re programmed in the same session, any not all done at the same time get erased, they can be added back in again though (assuming there is not a fault with them).
What new keys did you use? are the correct frequency type? ASK or FSK?

There is no separate way to program a new remote, they are programmed at the same time as the transponder (must be a remote with transponder chip on the board, not a separate chip). Pressing the remote buttons with the ignition on is just to sync an already programmed remote.

Thanks for the reply. The keys are the original ones, though the transponders failed, so I got two transponder chips and put them inside the case and programmed them to the car. Car is starting and running without issue, though it erased the link with the remote for locking and locking and won't let me readd it.

Wont work im afraid, you will need new remotes with the chip integrated onto the circuit board if you want working remotes. The remotes program in at the same as the transponder

Ah, so it actually links the remote via the transponder. I'd need to install a soldered on transponder (the exact same one?) if I wanted to save the remote?

Not really worth the hassle when you can get new remotes from China for less than £10

Just for the sake of understanding, a solder on transponder would be the way to get it working again?

I already have a key on the way 😊

Yes, but just to be clear the bit circled in yellow is not the chip, there is no info stored on this, its just basically an antenna. You would need to replace one of the multi leg chips (probably a PCF7941). I have never replaced the Citroen ones ( as its not worth the hassle & cheap universal remotes are far superior to the originals) but i have replaced the Fiat ones & the chips come with some form of coding on them, a blank chip may not work without some kind of pre coding on it first.
