Help identifying gearbox

Unread post by edwrdafk »

Hello! I have a 2013 Peugeot 508 2.0 HDI 140hp with the VIN number: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Can someone who has access to the Peugeot repair portal help me identify what exactly my gearbox is? It's a 6 speed manual, but I need to know how much oil it needs for a replacement and also what dimensions the oil sump plug and crush washer have. I just can't seem to find any exact info, some say it needs 2.6 liters, some say it needs 1.9.

Thanks in advance.

If you go to your Peugeot dealer service desk they should tell you the oil quantities from your VIN. They may not give too much away but you can usually get them to tell you about maintenance needs. :)

I don't have a Peugeot dealer service anywhere nearby and the service I asked for an offer said it requires 3 hours of work for this simple job, which is a scam. So I want to do it myself.

My gearbox has cooling fins, so it should only take 1.9l, however I extracted a little under 2.5l of oil from it when I drained it. So it means that whoever worked on it before either overfilled it or the info that the ML6C gearbox with fins takes 1.9l is wrong? What should I do?

In that case you can look at this older thread from a member who clearly found it was 1.9L for your gearbox with fins. :)

Thanks! I was leaning towards that conclusion too, but needed some assurance. I will get 2 Total Gear 8 1L gearbox oil bottles tomorrow, will it hurt if I put the extra 100ml in too?

Not keen on the word hurt but it certainly won't help so stick with 1.9L and you'll be ok :)
