2013 Partner Tepee 1.6 HDI
When weather is cool or damp the car will not start on the first few ignitions first thing in the morning. Engine light comes on. Wait about 30 seconds and then it starts fine. Then it usually starts fine for the rest of the day. Engine light usually turns itself off.
On days when weather is mild or warm there is often no problem.
Car currently with mechanic but so far he cannot diagnose because it's starting fine for him.
Any ideas or is anyone familiar with this issue ?

Re: Partner not starting first time in cool weather
The engine light should come on when the ignition is switched on as part of the light checks but once the engine starts it should then go off but not before. This is normal since it needs the engine to run to check all the sensors are working. If it stays on then it indicates a fault and a fault code should be stored.
Difficult to tell if there is a problem but maybe a fuel one - if you have a primer bulb you could try squeezing that a few times before trying to start.

Thanks.
I should have made it clear that engine light stays on. Then later in the day it sometimes turns itself off. This issue has been going on for months.

Perhaps the "Three Starts Rule", something I have just found with my Mazda 6. We often get the EML and some dire warnings up that disappear after three starts. Son says it is a recognised thing, his motorbike sometimes does the same.Bizzy55 wrote: 19 Jul 2025, 12:01 Thanks.

Now that is interesting to know. Chatting to friends, they are also familiar with engine lights coming on but they just ignore them and they eventually disappear.myglaren wrote: 19 Jul 2025, 12:18Perhaps the "Three Starts Rule", something I have just found with my Mazda 6.
