Questions about ownership of a Citroen C5 X7 2.0 HDiF after 20 000 Km

Unread post by Tottecitroen »

I'm interested in buying a Citroen C5 X7 with more than 20 000 Km. I sadly have a preconceived notion about french cars and it makes me very paranoid about their cars. I have read alot of good things about the Citroen C5 X7 but i am primarly afraid aobut the sensors, engine and hydroactive suspension. The examples that are for sale in my area have the 2.0 HDiF engine which i have read the most positive about.

I want a car that is rather bullet proof with resonable maintenance and I am just wondering about how the Citroen C5 X7 2.0 HDiF is. I am mostly worried about the suspension and i wonder how much maintenance it has and how common it is for it to fail.

In my experience, the car is reliable. I changed the seven spheres at 240,000 km, but it should be done before. You should also change the silent blocks regularly, maybe every 100,000 km. The suspension system failed once, and I had to change the compressor and two suspension struts. However, the reason for the failure was the incompetence of the car mechanic, who wasn’t very skilled with hydraulic suspensions. The engine is truly trustworthy.

20,000km is no mileage at all - that's practically a new car! Should hopefully be in fantastic condition with plenty of life left in it.

On the X7 in general:
The hydraulic system is not the problem with the car, reliability wise.
Other areas of the X7 are far from bullet proof however and require (in my experience and observations from the forum) far more maintenance and repair interventions than the previous generations of C5.
It's a good car, but if you want something bulletproof I would probably feel guilty if I recommended the X7 to you.

Others may disagree.
