Citroen C5 Aircross, 1.6 Hybrid charging small auxiliary battery in boot.

Unread post by Biffo61 »

Hi I own A 2020 Citroen C5 Aircross ,1.6 Hybrid to date it’s got 7200 miles on it clock. Over last few days when starting the car I cannot get it into Hybrid or Electric modes and I’m getting a warning message saying car is in automatic mode so Hybrid and Electric modes I cannot get into. In Hybrid I’m getting fuel consumption of 78mpg up to 183mpg today my fuel consumption was 20.9 mpg. I’ve been told I’m stuck in automatic mode because the small Motorcycle type battery which is stored in the boot area hasn’t got enough battery power in it to operate my Hybrid / Electric function. I know taking the C5 Aircross on a run for 40-50 miles would recharge the Auxiliary battery so the Hybrid / Electric function would start working properly again. I use to ride motorbikes in my younger days and purchased a Optimate 4 Motorcycle battery trickle charger / optimiser . Could I connect the trickle charger up to the Auxillary battery in the boot section so it’s recharged fully and kept fully charged by the trickle charger optimiser while the Auxillary battery is still connected. Thanks Ian

I would suggest you ask the dealer that question as on such a low mileage car it may affect Citroen's response should a major issue arise in the future and the warranty on the electrical system may be affected. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Yes, you can, make sure the vehicle is completely off and locked, wait 5-10 minutes so the car’s ECUs are fully asleep. Connect the Optimate 4 to the auxiliary battery in the boot
