RT6 CD eject noise issue

Unread post by HihoSilver308 »

Hi all,
Firstly awesome resource everyone! I have been reading/learning for a while but have hit a wall and am looking for any pointers please.

My 2013 308 radio stopped working one day and all it does now is make CD eject sounds every 13 seconds. i can still open and close the screen in the dash, and there is a backlight visible. I read some posts here and tried Mirascripts to back up files but no activity at all. I got a new 16gb micro SD card formatted it to FAT32, and swapped it out. I downloaded the only .ISO i could find of 2.86 then burnt it to both a CD and USB after I deleted the "System Volume Information" Windows stuff. I tried different configurations of CD or USB with car turned off before adding the media, and car on then adding the media, but same thing........the CD just gets ejected, and the USB did nothing after 15 mins.

Frustrated, so I ended up buying an identical radio from a car salvage shop and as soon as I plugged it in, whoa, radio works, NAVI works, parking sensors work, and Bluetooth works with no config. Only issue was that it beeped every second I had the music or Bluetooth on. So I head over to Peugeot and ask them to plug in my car and add the VIN to stop the beeping, but he insisted on doing a whole diagnostic for £160, and then "go on from there". Thanks but no thanks. I drove about for probably another month like that, but at least I has my clock, NAVI, and temp with no noise.

Then I park my car for 1.5 weeks while I cover on-call with a works van, and when I get back into my car and start it, CD EJECTING NOISE AGAIN!! So now I have 2 x radios with the same issue. Starting to think it's my car doing this for not washing it enough! LOL! I contacted a repair shop down South about shipping it to them to fix, but after describing the issue, they said they could not fix it because it was a software issue. So i'm thinking to look for a friendlier firmware version than 2.86 and trying again only I can only find 2.86 anywhere. Since radio 1 died first I don't know its version. But I did see version 2.75 for radio 2 as soon as I got it before it died. Is it possible to find 2.75, 2.77, or maybe 2.80 somewhere to give that a go? At lease I have a spare if I brick one! Or maybe I can convince a dealer to take both radios and use radio 2 as payment for radio 1, can't hurt to ask I guess.

i am open to any suggestions on this. My wife is getting tired of my singing :rofl2: . Cheers

Update:
I have tried the v2.80 firmware from Paul-R (cheers Paul) with no luck. Whatever I try seems to just revert back to not reading the inserted CD (it gets ejected after ~20 seconds), or not reading the USB (light is on so it is powered). I have used new FAT32 formatted 8GB/16GB micro SD cards and 8GB USBs, multiple versions of v2.86, and the recent v2.80 all with this same outcome.......the same CD eject noise every 13 seconds. I am beginning to think the radio is not completing the boot sequence far enough to get to the CD or USB paths. Could this be the case? Is there anything else I can check? Or am I going to need to send the unit off for repair? If so will they say what the issue is/was after it is sorted? I really looking to understand the finer workings of this issue. Thanks again.

By the way, I did use the .bat file to always remove the "System Volume Information" from the SD cards and USBs each time before I removed them from my PC.

So looks like my issue was a dodgy USB drive. Scrapped it and started with a new drive, clean format, and loaded up 2.80 again. It's worked a treat! I did the fix on radio 2 so still had the annoying beeping due to VIN mis-match, but everything is fine. English menu, miles instead of KM, mew maps, risk alerts, and a 7-digit postcode search ability. Just did the same fix on radio 1 and everything's fine, including no annoying VIN mis-match beep. Happy days! Now I can sell on my updated and working radio 2.
