Citroen Xsara 2.0 HDi 90 hp - new owner questions

Unread post by selma_true »

Hello all!
I edited the OP instead of starting a new thread to avoid spamming
Last week I managed to snag a rather well preserved facelift Xsara break. Just shy of 140000 km driven. I
As background info of the car, VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

1. is there sense in re-mapping? Recently I had a bit newer 307 with 2,0 HDi 136 hp - didn't care too much for the car but it did feel a lot more vigorous than the Xsara. So I had a look and saw that hdi-tuning could have something in store for me.

2. my key fob seems to be completely dead. I checked with the multimeter that the battery is good, perhaps recently changed by the previous owner in an attempt to resurrect it. I saw some old discussions mentioning ignition, holding lock button etc. to try to re-pair it. Most of the discussions said to check the owner's manual - but the thing is the manual I got doesn't really say anything about that topic. Any ideas what to try before seeking professional assistance?

3. the car complains about "Top up engine coolant", and after a couple of minutes of driving the error and stop light disappears. I checked and the coolant level was over the MAX in the container. I emptied the coolant just shy of the max level, but still it moans about that almost every time I start the car.
- I checked the error codes with a knock-off ELM327 adapter (I have the proper cables but Lexia refused to boot up yesterday). It showed P1351 "Ignition coil control circuit high voltage" - doesn't sound like a bingo in this case but I'll need to re-install the Diagbox software and see if I can get it to boot up.

4. has there been a Haynes manual released for the phase 2 Xsara? I've only managed to find the phase 1 one online.

Anything about initialising the remote would be under a hand book section on replacing its battery.

Yes, that part was a very quick read. Basically it just said replace the battery, put to ignition and if something goes wrong, go to Citroen repair shop :-)

About syncing the remotes I saw this quote on these forums "... You may need to re sync remotes afterwards by switching the ignition on & pressing lock butt on 5 or 6 times with each remote." - will try that next.

Found the "top up engine coolant" issue. Sensor had solder joints broken, exactly like in this video:

In case anyone else comes across the same issue.

I don't know this tbh - but I think your car will have the DW10TED?
That engine was also available in the Mk1 C5 and it also had a 110bhp version (DW10ATED). The core engine itself is the same as far as I know, but the DW10ATED had an intercooler (and presumably a re-map) so the lack of intercooler may be your limiting factor on any re-map - if you want more power, need to add an intercooler as well.

DW10TED - maybe, I don't know where do I accurately find this. I was messing around Lexia yesterday to check if I see it among other things in there. Anyways, I don't want to start swapping hardware, that's really out of my realm of expertise and don't maybe costs will be prohibitive for me to get it done professionally. But from the hdi-tuning.co.uk page I understand that stage 1 remap would be available for me also without the intercooler.

Unfortunately my Lexia keeps crashing. It's quite annoying since I wanted to try key pairing there to see if I get the fob working. I'm afraid to to try it now, if it crashes mid-pairing. It already crashed yesterday while reading the cd-player info, which resulted in me being unable to turn the cd-player off! :-D
