Xsara hdi (Facelift) Electrical Gremlins

Unread post by Karlwhitfield13 »

Xsara 2004 hdi (n2/facelift) not the picasso but the n2Speedometer, fuel gauge, mileage, rev counter and temp not working at all but lights are staying on ie engine warning, airbag, handbrake light and they stay on briefly when car turned off.

It happened the other day but for a short time it corrected itself

Any way of narrowing it down? I can't find a Haynes manual anywhere to narrow down wires or fuses and I'm no stranger to wiring but no idea where to start with this one though?

A post I saw elsewhere suggested it may be an earth/corrosion issue? If I need to splice or swap a cable I will but at a loss for now.

I had a peugeot 306 display similar issues but never got to resolve that

Does the car start & run normally?
Any work been done recently?
Does it have an aftermarket radio fitted?
Have you tried a BSI reset by disconnecting & re connecting following the correct procedure?
May be worth pulling the BSI out & checking for any signs of water ingress.

Hey thanks for replying

Car starts and runs great. Admittedly high mileage she's done 197k now

Recent hub change on drivers side

Aftermarket radio Admittedly spliced by me

I haven't done a bsi reset is there a procedure for my specific car?

Is BSI behind glovebox in my car?

Has the Aftermarket radio been installed for a while or is it just recent?

To reset BSI, Remove keys, open bonnet & close all doors. Wait at least 3 minutes & during this wait dont open any doors or press any remote buttons. After the 3 minute wait disconnect one of the battery terminals for & leave off for 2 minutes, reconnect battery & wait 3 minutes before doing anything else. After 3 minutes you can open door & switch ignition on for 5-10 seconds before trying to start engine. You may need to re sync remotes afterwards by switching the ignition on & pressing lock butt on 5 or 6 times with each remote.

The BSI is located behind the panel by your right knee.

Hello Wheeler

Apologies for not replying quickly. Radio was in for about 4-6 weeks? I did notice the speedometer and what not worked briefly before stopping again (the same day the issue appeared)

My Fob hasnt worked for sometime and probably needs a new battery too. Before i proceed with this process would it be sensible to replace the battery in the fob?

Hello me again,

Drove it yesterday to Wales and back from Manchester and the speedo/rev counter, coolant, fuel, mileage all kicked back in and worked till today then it stopped again so any likely suspects?
