2.0 HDI Airbox swap

Probably silly question but maybe covers more than my specific vehicle so someone may have input..

I found myself in my little 307cc going through a dirt track with a few puddles and holes the other day. Due to insufficient surveying of the route a mile ahead on my part, I got myself into a point of no return and a relatively large puddle (would be called a pond if it was in someone's garden). Knowing, the Airbox layout is not very forgiving, I popped the bonnet and lifted the Airbox up over the radiator and went through relatively safely.

I noticed earlier the c5 and 407 have a sort of snorkel that brings the intake to the centre and higher. Not that I plan on going through ponds regularly, but seems like a better design
Has anyone retrofitted these other air boxes, they *appear* to mount the same as my original one but without the lower intake tube (very similar to my old dispatch 2.0 that had an elephants trunk to help suck up water..) they're used on ebay but no point wasting £25 if people have tried and failed in the past.

I might be wrong but on the C5 it has the higher intake on top of the grill but there may be a drain hole low down in the filter box so if going through deep water it could still suck in water. However, if it does have a drain hole it could be sealed.

I might venture on trying one (if it fits under the bonnet properly without obstruction of course, and the MAF/temp sensor mounts properly)
I suppose a drain hole is fine, I'm not an expert in fluid dynamics but would at least imagine air in a wide pipe would be preferred for consumption vs a vertical draw of liquid through a small hole - definitely worth taking note of though. The 307's box also has a drain but has one of those shaped one way valves on the end of a tube (just like the wheel arch drains that get blocked up with muck and flood the footwells of many cars)
