308cc Dashboard & Diagnostic Warnings

Unread post by divettri »

I have 2009 Peugeot 308cc. The can has a couple of warnings on the dashboard & when I plug in my little hand-held diagnostic tool, it gives me some codes. Hopefully someone can help me with what they mean or what i can maybe do.

- Anti-pollution system fault - dashboard warning

- Turbocharger / supercharger underboost - on diagnostic tool P0299 $07e8 & P0299 $07e8pd

- Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A - on diagnostic tool P0016 $07e8

Grateful for any advice on these.

What engine, mileage, is servicing up to date, any work done recently before the problems started ?

If a petrol vti engine has the timing chain been replaced yet since these can wear ?
Have you checked the MAP sensor to see if it is bunged up with oil and if it is giving reasonable values ?

Hi, it is a 1.6 petrol engine. Don't know if it is a VTI, how can I tell?

Only owned the car since February & have no history with it so I'd have to assume that there has been no major maintenance (i.e. Timing Chain).

What is the MAP sensor & where can I find it?

What are sensible values?

Can you post just the letters from your VIN without the V F 3 (or have a space between like I had to do) then others than admin can read it. The engine type is included in these letters. If not a vti it might be a THP and these are known to have problems with carbon build up amongst others.

Again what is the mileage ?

I assume that this is a THP engine. If you clear the codes, how quickly do they return? And under what driving conditions?

V F 3 4 B 5 F X H 9 S 1 2 6 7 3 1
Mileage is 116k

Where will the carbon build up be?

Also, the MAP sensor to see if it is bunged up with oil and if it is giving reasonable values ? - Where can i find this sensor & what are reasonable values?

Reason: VIN enclosed in spoiler tags to make it less obvious to bots.

The codes come back in straight away I think but not certain. Definitely the Anti-pollution warning does.

It would be helpful to know which codes come back immediately, as these would be the first to chase.

The under-boost error shouldn't happen if the engine is driven very gently, then the question is whether there is any boost generated before the error is thrown.

The MAP sensor is unlikely to be responsible for those codes and is mounted on the throttle body (quite difficult to access). The boost pressure sensor is mounted on the plastic pipe that runs across the top of the engine.

I don't think that you said how badly the engine is running. Is it rough, or lacking power?

From above the engine code is 5FX so an EP6DT engine and so a THP 150 one as xantia_V6 thought. https://mymotorlist.com/engines/peugeot/ep6dt/

If you want to look at the MAP sensor and boost pressure sensor values in live data, with the ignition on but the engine not running they ought to be similar to each other depending on the units - might be pascals, kpascals, mbar or bar. On tickover again similar but when the accelerator pedal is pressed they should go up, when released drop back down. You could post any values on here which might help us.

It would be helpful to know which codes come back immediately, as these would be the first to chase. I WILL HAVE TO CHECK THIS. ITS MY DAUGHTER'S CAR & SHE USES IT FOR WORK SO ALL DEPENDS WHEN SHE'S HOME & WHETHER I'M WORKING OR NOT.

The under-boost error shouldn't happen if the engine is driven very gently, then the question is whether there is any boost generated before the error is thrown. AGAIN, AS I DON'T DRIVE IT REGULARLY, IT'S MY DAUGHTER THAT DRIVES IT. I AM NOT SURE HOW HEAVY A DRIVER SHE IS. WHEN I CLEARED THE CODES ON WEEKEND, THE ENGINE WAS JUST IDLING.

The MAP sensor is unlikely to be responsible for those codes and is mounted on the throttle body (quite difficult to access). The boost pressure sensor is mounted on the plastic pipe that runs across the top of the engine. I WILL NEED TO SEE IF I CAN FIND THESE.

I don't think that you said how badly the engine is running. Is it rough, or lacking power? ENGINE DOESN'T SOUND ROUGH TO ME. MY DAUGHTER SAYS THAT SOMETIMES IT DOES LACK POWER, KIND OF LIKE THE CAR IS DYING!!

Something to read on P0016 - stretched timing chain with a description of the fault code viewtopic.php?t=69778

So judging by the engine report, this is a P I S S poor engine, fraught with issues!! Some of which we've experienced. Possibly the issue is with stretched timing chain? To my knowledge never been replaced & car has done 116k.

I will try to check the Live readings from the sensors & post here later.

So would you recommend the timing chain be replaced as could be stretched? Never replaced to my knowledge & car has done 116k miles.
What is anticipated cost (if known)?
