Mick's Motoring 2025 Back to Beamish!!

Unread post by mickthemaverick »

We have decided to plan a return to Beamish to take in the 1950s section and the mine which we missed last time. So I have already booked a night in Thirsk on Thursday 4th September and a night in Hunton on the 5th. The basic plan is:

Thursday 4th September

Home - Newport Pagnell - York National Railway Museum - Thirsk

Friday 5th September

Thirsk - Beamish - Hunton near Leyburn

Saturday 6th September

Hunton - TBA - TBA - Newport Pagnell - Home.

So if you are able to meet us for coffee, lunch, tea, dinner or just a beer on any days let me know and we'll arrange whatever. :-D

I should manage the Beamish one. Youngest son is getting married sometime around then so will have to consult him (again) about dates.
Have asked several times and forgotten just as many.

Good to hear Steve, we will finalise the plan for Friday closer to the day as we may have others to fit in as well as us 3. :-D

No worries there Mick ;) I'm firmly in the Ilford camp both for film and chemicals ;) There's only one Kodak interloper in my current stock of films - bought in a moment of madness

Open-air 'living museum' scoops prestigious £120k prize

"An open-air museum in County Durham that features faithful recreations of old homes, shops, farms and a colliery has won the annual award for the UK's museum of the year.

Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, brings the history of the region from the 1820s to the 1950s to life through a series of immersive exhibits.

The museum, which opened in 1972 and aims to preserve local heritage, will receive £120,000 prize money.

Art Fund director Jenny Waldman, the chair of the judges, described Beamish as "a joyous, immersive and unique place" that had been "a jewel in the crown of the North East for 55 years".
